A speedy hummingbird stops to take a sunset drink.
“African Iris” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © “May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow. / May the soft winds freshen your spirit. / May the sunshine brighten your heart. / May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you, / and may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.” / ~ Irish Blessing
A mother hummingbird enjoys sitting in her tropical palm tree nest over her three eggs. Irvine CA.
“Blossoming with Age” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © Sitting at the foot of the rainforest covered Great Dividing / Range in far north tropical Queensland is the small / rural town of Kennedy well known for its sugarcane and / banana farming. Some of these farms have stayed in a / family for well over a century (a long time in this area’s / short settlement history) and the buildings and farming / machinery left in paddocks attest to their age. / Having to stop my car at a dead end of a dirt track, I / spotted this treasured farm hand in a far off field. Not / wanting to disturb the grazing cattle nearby nor the ire of / the farmer by trespassing on his property, I shot this / photo from my car. As I gazed on the old beast I thought / how completely peaceful and restful it looked in its bed / of blossoming flowers and canopy of tin, free to while / away its aging years at one with nature. “Old age has a great sense of calm and freedom.” / ~ Plato
“Sunbird” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © I am blessed to enjoy the visits of a friendly little sunbird / that flutters up against my kitchen window early in the / mornings. Flies and gnats that have gathered there are / quickly devoured giving him strength for the coming day. / Tiny wings beat so fast they appear to be just a blur of / movement through the windows glass pane. / He suddenly disappears….. just as quickly as he / appeared, he departs, onto his next serving of breakfast. / I was lucky enough to capture this little fellow in a friend’s / garden. Although not ‘my’ wee sunbird, he was just as / charming and very considerate to sit still long enough / for me to get this shot. “If I keep a green bough in my heart, / the singing bird will come.” / ~ Chinese Proverb
