I’ve had this image for a while and have been a little reluctant to upload it due to all the chatter that’s centred around quality and content. So in response to Natalie’s Forum I thought it was time to share. This was captured using a Sony Alpha 100 using a 75 – 300mm. I was walking the back alleys and laneways of Echuca when this little guy popped out, now he knew that pound for pound it was not going to be a fair fight (between me and him!) but he would’ve given me a run for my money! Like my kitten image I wanted to paint this little dog with some fantasy flair. This dog is basically my creation I don’t know if there are any dogs that look exactly like this in the world, I’m sure definitely not this colorful. I looked at a few photos of puppies and dogs to get ideas of what type of dog I wanted to create and paint. I played with different colors until I got a result that I liked. I wanted this dog to look very cute and mysterious much like my kitten image.

painted in Corel painter using wacom tablet. Photo used for reference. / best view large / For those who dont know my grey angels story!!! Stormy our newfy puppy holds a very very huge part of my heart , that she took when she passed away just over a year ago!! We only had her for a short time! / She came to us all the way from New Zealand at the age of 9weeks and at the age of 11 weeks we found out she had a rare bone disease in her front legs that was causing the bones to grow at different rates and causing them to bow and grow out and her elbows were growing away from her body!! We were told this would be her death sentence and to put her to sleep.. but we couldnt not with out giving her every chance ..so we did eveything we could special diet, physo, swimming and hoped and prayed that she would be ok .. we knew she would never normal but ok and no pain would be fine with us!!.. but sady at the age of 7mths she had grown so big that her legs couldnt take her weight and she was in pain so we had to let her go!! / it was the HARDEST day of my life!! This was painted from a photo i had taken of her about a month before we lost her !! Grey Angel“ /
How I love the beautiful wolf. Painted in Corel Painter with chalks. Featured in RedBubble’s Featured Art & Photography homepage – August 4, 2009.
Yesterday and today I work on this painting of a dog (I think it is some kind of Spaniel). I really wanted to exceed myself with this one. Mainly I make paintings with a neutral background, but this time I really wanted a theme. So I turned on some nice classical music which immediatly brought my in the mood for this painting, but than again, music is painting with notes hahaha. The photo really captured that moment when someone calls their dog and they look up at you just a moment before they jump up and run towards you. As I did not like the background in the photo I tried to make my own background out of several other photo’s. It was really hard to blend in the dog with the background with his shadow, but also because the dog is in a somewhat different style than the background. I have the painting as my desktop background and I just cannot stop watching, to me that is a good sign ;-) Best regards, Odwin
2009. Age 22 This. took. hours… Drawn on smooth bristol board. My first attempt of “Maya” was complete in Feburary 2009, however I was not happy with the finished piece so decided to get back to the drawing board… literally. I poured everything into this effort so I really hope it shows. There’s a lot of detail that can’t be seen unless zoomed in – for example each ear has multiple layers of hair strands, each one casting their own shadow. I really tried to push myself with this picture and I am happy with the finished result. I hope you like it too :-)

...feeling a bit nostalgic today so I thought I’d share this snippet of days gone by with youDays go by ..inspired by the music of the past “His Master’s Voice” is a famous trademark in the music business, and for many years was the name of a large record label. The name was coined in 1899 as the title of a painting of the dog Nipper listening to a wind-up gramophone. .inspired by the Artist Francis Barraud(he did the original painting)of Nipper’ a first experimental digital creation using a photo I took of my ol’ grammy….a photo of Nipper layered them onto a gold gradient background added the notes/text/put it thru’ Redfield fractallius/organic edges to give it the distressed look/cloned/coloured/contrast tweaked etc; .featured in ‘Art in math’ ...

If you knew my wonderful old boy…this is quite fitting for his laid back reaction to most things…usually a bewildered stare without much movement…and a look as if to say…”Can I eat this?” And if it’s not food…”well, think I’ll go have a nap then…” /
