Believe it or not, I took all these floral photos at Lowe’s! I had seen a hummingbird moth there and was given permission to come back with my camera to get a shot of it. Unfortunately, the moth had other plans and didn’t show up, but the flowers made up for it with their brilliant colors and interesting textures and fragrances. I decided to put some of them together in this collage celebrating the colors of Autumn.

CHALLENGE WINNER in ‘The raindrops and water art’ group My favourite flower to model the water drops. I’ve been waiting for these lovely flowers to bloom since last year when I took the photo Dianthus drops / It was such a popular pic, winning a couple of challenges and being featured so many times. They have just started to flower in the UK so I treated myself to a few pots to play with. I’ve taken hundreds of shots all with different backgrounds, here are just a few of them. Dianthus / Dianthus is a genus of about 300 species of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae, native mainly to Europe and Asia, with a few species extending south to north Africa, and one species (D. repens) in arctic North America. Common names include carnation (D. caryophyllus), pink (D. plumarius and related species) and sweet william (D. barbatus). The name Dianthus is from the Greek words dios (“god”) and anthos (“flower”), and was cited by the Greek botanist Theophrastus. The species are mostly perennial herbs, a few are annual or biennial, and some are low subshrubs with woody basal stems. The leaves are opposite, simple, mostly linear and often strongly glaucous grey-green to blue-green. The flowers have five petals, typically with a frilled or pinked margin, and are (in almost all species) pale to dark pink. One species, D. knappii, has yellow flowers with a purple centre. / ~Wikipedia Panasonic FZ20
