East Timor Sept 2000: Young Timorese gather at Suai Church, Suai, East Timor for a memorial sevice to the victims of violence. Suai was the site of a massacre by pro Indonesian malitias after the UN sponsored referendum.

I found this on a very old unmarked grave.It struck me as being one of the most moveing tributes in the cemetary.

In one of Kathmandu’s many buddhist temple grounds – we got really lost one day looking around, we found all sorts of wonderful places with real life going on, far removed from the hustle of the city. But the chances of finding our way back there? None. It’s probably best that way. These are prayer wheels, they contain bits of paper with the prayer on, and have it inscribed on the outside – so that when the devotee walks around the stupa, spinning the wheels as s/he goes, the prayers keep on going out into the ether. Along with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, they make for an incredibly special atmosphere.

This old lady was walking home after visiting this Buddhist temple in Bagan, Burma. Walking barefoot, carrying her sandals in hand, she was a picture of loveliness.

Found these little guys at a market near Inle Lake in Burma. They really look after their monks, giving alms each morning, and supporting them freely – it’s remarkable.
