My Artful Devotion

The Western Wall or simply the Kotel , is a Jewish religious site located in the Old City of Jerusalem. The wall itself dates from the Second Temple period, (516 BCE – 70 CE). It is sometimes referred to as the Wailing Wall, referring to Jews who come to the site to mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple.
A female Eastern bluebird is doing a headstand for her babies; thought I’d add the sentiment just for that special person you’d stand on your head for! A nice way to express your unconditional love for another!
Inspired by the Hans Christian Anderson tale ‘The Wild Swans’ Although the girl in the story does not become a swan, (all her 11 brothers do) she continues to watch over her swan brothers, taking a vow of silence and stitching magic shirts for them. / In a sense her silence becomes her cage as the swan body en cages the brothers. She must carry this devotion and love in silence, she must bide the time until the spell can be broken. / So I guess this is a symbolic version of the girl Elisa. / / From the series of swan girls I sketch.
“Wherever you go, I will go… (Ruth 1:16)” was featured in the groups Soul Mates and Diversity Art Store The title is taken from a Biblical verse, concerning the deep loyalty of one woman to another: / 8 And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each to her mother’s house. The LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me. 9 The LORD grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband.” / So she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. 10 And they said to her, “Surely we will return with you to your people.” / 11 But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Are there still sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? 12 Turn back, my daughters, go—for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, if I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons, 13 would you wait for them till they were grown? Would you restrain yourselves from having husbands? No, my daughters; for it grieves me very much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD has gone out against me!” / 14 Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. / 15 And she said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.” / 16 But Ruth said: “ Entreat me not to leave you, / Or to turn back from following after you; / For wherever you go, I will go; / And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; / Your people shall be my people, / And your God, my God. / 17 Where you die, I will die, / And there will I be buried. / The LORD do so to me, and more also, / If anything but death parts you and me.” Ruth 1, New King James Version Part of the verses 16 and 17 is written (in Hebrew) on the right side of the drawing. The drawing depicts my own story, with a similar theme… In my case it was a bit more complicated sort of bond and loyalty. As for the details of my own case… Suomi is the Finnish word for Finland, and I immigrated to Finland 12 years ago from Israel because of my ex… That’s quite a lot said, as personal stories go… It’s NOT A PENCIL DRAWING – it’s a pointillistic INK drawing, like all my other drawings. Ganesha, is one of the best-known and most widely worshiped deities in the Hindu pantheon.[5] His image is found throughout India.[6] Hindu sects worship him regardless of other affiliations.[7] Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains, Buddhists, and beyond India.[8] Although he is known by many other attributes, Ganesha’s elephant head makes him easy to identify.[9] Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles10 and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles (Vighnesha, Vighneshvara),[11] patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom.[12] He is honored at the start of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as Patron of Letters during writing sessions.[13] Several texts relate mythological anecdotes associated with his birth and exploits and explain his distinct iconography.

The term also describes works of art which, in revealing a truth, may emphasize the ugly or sordid. Realism often refers to the artistic movement, which began in France in the 1850s. The popularity of realism grew with the introduction of photography – a new visual source that created a desire for people to produce things that look “objectively real”. Realists positioned themselves against romanticism, a genre dominating French literature and artwork in the late 18th and early 19th century. Undistorted by personal bias, Realism believed in the ideology of objective reality and revolted against exaggerated emotionalism. Truth and accuracy became the goals of many Realists. Realists render everyday characters, situations, dilemmas, and objects, all in a “true-to-life” manner. Realists tend to discard theatrical drama, lofty subjects and classical forms of art in favor of commonplace themes. / / / LINE DRAWING SERIES I have sub-sectioned this series to make my life a whole lot easier. Janmashtami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, an avatar of hindu deity Vishnu, who was born more than 5000 years ago. Janmashtami is a festival full of joy and gaiety. It celebrates with great pomp and show. Devotees observe fast for the entire day and it is broken after the birth of the Lord at midnight. Only milk and milk products are preferred by them, as these were the favorites of Lord Krishna. On this auspicious day, devotees recite slogans and mantras of Lord Krishna. Another important custom of celebrations is singing of Hindu Bhajans (devotional songs) during the Janmashtami festival. People involve in dance performances that portray the life of Lord Krishna. Krishna Temples are brilliantly decorated with oil lamps and festival celebration continues till early hours of morning. Thousands of devotees visit the temples on Krishna Janmashtami day to get a glimpse of their favorite God in full decoration. Special feasts will be arranged by temple authorities on Janmashtami day for devotees.
