Meldon Quarry, on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, Devon, UK Taken from close to the parking area at Meldon, this is a January view of South Down, near Okehampton, on an extraordinarily clear day. It is an image which had slipped into the wrong folder when I was sorting them in the new year. (104)

I went over to my former home town of Totnes in South Devon UK.,this morning having checked that high tide was at 09,56 and all was still with the River Dart like a mirror and beautiful lateral warm light. A similar scene to my earlier Reflections of the Past image that was taken with my trusty old Nikon D100. Still getting accustomed to all the features on my recently purchased Nikon D300 but was more than pleased with the results of the images I took this morning, this one having little editing, just a slight perspective crop and a little sharpening. A Light Unto My Path / Captured in Plymbridge Woods Dartmoor. / Camera: Nikon D40×18-55mm Kit Lense. Sold A Card on Wed 22nd of April 2009. After an operation to remove skin cancer from my forehead. Ouch! that was really painful, but the sale brought a smile to my face, and that hurt again:-) LOL. Thanks to the kind person who purchased it. If you let me know, I’ll put a link in here. Bless you whoever you are. Regards, Don. Captured in Plymbridge Woods Dartmoor, near Plymouth, Devon. / / This picture is one is a series looking at light and shade. I love the way the light shines on the pathway by the riverside and in the distant trees. It reminded me of how God directs us through life, He chooses not to illuminate the whole of our lives, but to direct us little by little bit by bit, so that our trust in in Him alone. The verse of Scripture that sprang to mind was, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. You can trust God’s Word to guide you through life. Hope you enjoy; A Light unto my path.
In a sleepy hollow below the little Dartmoor village of Walkhampton, the River Walkham makes it way off the high moor ground with the ancient stone Huckworthy Bridge crossing it next to the former Post Office. A little known part of the moors to tourists and so peaceful, I often enjoy a walk down from the village along the riverside to escape the many visitors who at times overcrowd the moors. This is one of the few remaining groynes that are along the pebble ridge at Westward Ho, in North devon (UK) / The light that evening was just fantastic, and have never seen anything quite like it again. / This is a very much photographed image, though i have never taken another one as good. Seagull sitting on top of a fountain in Torquay, Devon. / It looks like he is trying to squirt everyone with water by sitting on the top of it. / Had my Sigma 70-300 on for this shot, on full zoom. / Single shot, converted into a 9 shot HDR using Dynamic Photo Hdr, and tweaked a little in CS3. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking. Pentax K110D. / Sigma 70-300 DG Macro.
An early morning seascape from my neighbouring town of Paignton as the sun was rising and giving a pleasing warm glow to the old pier. I am always fascinated at how gulls seem to settle down during a sunrise or sunset, there were dozens in flight a few minutes before I took this shot and as the sun broke through, all but a few had settled down on the roof of the pier buildings, adding to that eerie calm of the sunrise. Nikon D100 / 38mm / F7.1 for 1/200sec.
An eerie calm is enjoyed as the sun sinks down and at the end of a beautiful day and casts it’s golden hues on the River Teign in South Devon, UK.
My hysterical Devon Rex cat, Maggie. Winter is no fun when you don’t have fur.
This is another of my photos taken around the Sheepstor area of Dartmoor. These wind-blasted trees (this one is probably a hawthorn) are typical of higher moorland.
The world famous Red Arrows doing what they do best, at the Dawlish Air Show today. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking. Pentax K200D. / Sigma 70-300mm Macro.
I took this today 7th June 2009. We had spent a lovely day at Ugbrooke House. Which is only ten minutes from our cottage. It is the home of Lord and Lady Clifford. It was an open day for the RNLI. We were so lucky with the weather, unlike last year when it rained the whole time. As we were leaving Ugbrooke House, there in front of us was this beautiful Thatched Cottage so I had to stop and get some shots and am pleased with the result. Thank you for looking. / Edited inRAW in Dynamic Photo HDR 1×3 finished in Picasa3. / BEST VIEWED LARGER
Every Sunday a steam train makes it way down from Bristol to Kingswear filled with steam enthusiasts, mainly on the main Paddington to Penzance line. Quite exciting to see it pass Dawlish at about 40MPH with the whistle blowing and people cheering it on it’s way along the scenic coastal section of the trip.
Yes. Another flower I do not know the name of. Help please. / Another from my neighbours garden. / I called it spokes, as it looks like spokes from a wheel. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens. / Omax Macro & +4 Close Up Lenses.
Time to try something different and I’d appreciate your honest feedback on this one please. Two highly reflective images taken in the portrait format, slightly cropped and reduced in size to fit on a black mask, total image size is 4500×3000. I took both of these images within minutes of one another from each side of the old bridge over the River Dart in my former home town Totnes, Devon. The PAST image is of the former warehouses and church converted to luxury riverside apartments, the PRESENT being a new block of colourful riverside houses recently built on the site of a former garage business. Taken at Cockington Village just outside Torquay in Devon UK. The ancient village is a real step back in time for the visitor and most of the centuries old houses have thatched roofs like this one, the Higher Lodge. Ponies and traps are available all through the Summer months for a scenic trip round the village and the friendly drivers are full of information about the historic village. Following on from my previous image of Cockington Mill in Devon, this image was taken from Cockington village square looking up the hill towards the entrance to the mansion and it’s grounds. / The building on the right is the Old Granary, now a popular gift shop and a little further up the hill is the Weaver’s Cottage, now a popular old world tea room where traditional Westcountry cream teas are served (YUMMY) / The village square is also the starting point for the popular pony and carriage trips around the ancient village, I will be posting at least one with the ponies in it soon. Nikon D100 / 18 – 70 Zoom @ 27mm / F11 for 1/60sec / CP Filter used.
Captured this on a stroll to the beach yesterday afternoon. The shadows on the beach from the fence on the train station caught my eye. / My main mission was to shoot the ‘Torbay Express’ Steam Train, which went through at such speed, I was not in a good position to get it, so wait till next week for that one. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens. /
Well this one that settled on the bow of a small boat in front of me certainly seemed to be enjoying the peace and beauty of the moment as much as I was. An eerie atmosphere as the sun was setting on the River Teign in Devon UK., I am told that the geography of this part of the river gives most unusual colours during a sunset from yellow to golden bronze.
Following on my little series from Cockington village in Devon, at the top of the village next to the Mansion House, the ancient 14th Century Parish Church of Cockington enjoying a little welcome sunshine with one of the many magnolia trees in full bloom in the foreground. Exeter’s beautiful 1000 year old cathedral has the longest continually vaulted ceilng in the World. I carefully composed this image of a short section of the vaulted ceiling to be as symmetrical as possible and give a pleasing patternation created by the lines of the gilt decorated structural beams. As a footnote to anyone else trying this kind of composition, you get quite a bit of attention from others when you spend over an hour laying on your back in such a sacred building trying to get that special image.
