  • Abstract

  • This is one of the spurs that travels up throught the high country on Mt Stirling, this track runs between Hut No#3, Refuge Hut and Razorback Hut (or known to the locals as Purcell’s Hut) It was devastating to see that these beautiful snow gums have not recovered from the 2006/2007 bushfires. It was still a beautiful spot to see and it was a childhood dream of mine to be up there in amongst these beauties, so i was in awe! (I am addicted to the high country to… i shall be returning VERY soon) Thi image is the first of may to come!

  • Those that know me well know that i was shattered when Craig’s hut burnt down in the 2006/2007 bush fires. I have loved “The Man from Snowy River” since i was a little girl and it had always been a dream of mine to one day see Craig’s hut in the flesh… then it was ravished by fire last year… well they have rebuilt it and thanks to our wonderful friend whom we stay with in Bonnie Doon, he took me and my family up there, knowing how much it would mean to me… I apologise now as i have about 70 odd photos from here and i am sure that a good number will end up on the Bub! This really was a dream come true, silly to some maybe, but for me a special moment i will never forget. I will be returning very soon as I have fallen in love with it up there…

  • Another view of Craig’s Hut on Mt Stirling.

  • My first attempt at a HDR image. Not a true one in the sense that i took multiple exposure shots… i made different exposure shots with my RAW converter…then put together with photomatrix… Was good fun! Not sure it is right but i think it looks ok???

  • Companion piece, of sorts, to this.

  • photo taken at algonquin river state hospital. / more of my work is on www.abandonedamerica.org

  • Prophecy? Four days ago I posted images on my other site (InAWE) of a bushfire near my home…. There goes the forest / and / There goes the farm Little did I know it would be almost prophetic as today it was our turn to face the horror of an out of control bushfire on the family farm – it was within 500 metres of our homes and only a shift in wind took it in a different direction or I would not be sitting here tonight writing about it. (Nor be in the mood to wander through the smoke and burned out area taking photos!) / I am so grateful to the volunteers fire fighters and the neighbours and friends who all came to help fight this fire, not to mention the police and fire brigades and three fire fighter airplanes ….. More photos can be viewed here

  • This was taken straight after a particularly nasty storm at Mornington Harbour – This isolated child was more intent on fosiking in the sand rather than be caught up in the devastation. A dust storm also blew in from the west.

My family and I have watched the unfolding events in Victoria this weekend and we have, all four of us, shed tears at the total and utter devastation our fellow countrymen and women have had to endure, and will continue to endure for a long time to come. For my global friends who may not be aware of the terrible bushfires that have wiped out whole communities and caused loss of lives and property on an massive scale you can read about it here One thing that has stood out for me has been the overwhelming sense of community support and courage shown by all those who have lost so much. Here, in our Redbubble community, people are also pulling together to do what they can to help out the victims of this tragedy, and to see that happening fills me with such a sense of pride in our community. For my part I will be offering all artist profits on any sales made in my portfolio this month to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal Redbubble has generously offered to match this donation dollar for dollar. If you would like to do the same all you need to do is email accounts@redbubble.com at the end of the month (27th, 28th of February) and indicate that you would like your artist profits donated to the appeal I’m also planning on going on a spending spree myself, and will be purchasing works from the generous artists who are contributing to and supporting this cause. So please let me know here if you are participating so I can come check out your gallery. I will also update this journal with links to your portfolio. Also, PLEASE check out the works that have been donated to the Phoenix Appeal. Same deal here, Redbubble will chip in dollar for dollar to match any artists profits that are raised from the sales of works on this account. And don’t forget, you can always make direct donations to the Red Cross appeal here Finally, the biggest HUGEST thankyou to everyone here on Redbubble that has rallied together… I feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community. Together we can make a difference. These people are also donating their artist profits for this month (which Redbubble will match dollar for dollar) to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. • A newspaper photo taken by Russell Vickery about fires in Gippsland, for viewing in a time of distress for many Victorians. Any proceeds from sale of this image to go to Wildlife Appeal in support of wildlife care in a time of need. Story about Sam the Koala that went with this photo was written by Megan McNaught in Herald Sun newspaper. Fires have taken many lives in Victoria, people have been unable to escape fire fronts in fierce winds & the highest radiant heat temperatures on record. I have posted this Photo taken by Russell Vickery, taken in an extraordinary moment of compassion. Animals are suffering unable to outrun the speed of fires, the land is burned black & homes destroyed, people devastated. 4,000 firefighters still battling 33 bushfires round the state even now & fortunately temperatures have dropped. February 7th was a black black day for Victoria, highest recorded temperatures on record, (47 degrees Gippsland) the day fires lit up across the state. 181 deaths- people trapped in cars & houses, unbelievable heartbreak. / The ‘leave early or defend policy’ has to be reviewed when fires fanned by winds can travel 20 km in a few minutes and with not enough warning. Radiant heat and smoke too intense for escape, no water, radio or TV, phone homelines when needed. Support from round the country is pouring in and the CFA is doing its very best to contain fire fronts.

  • Taken As IS on my Sony A200 55-200 lens. / Taken for the lighting and colour tones.. This is the hills surrounding King Lake, seven weeks after the devastating fire of black Saturday. / A lot of these trees will not recover as they were so hot that they boiled on the inside, leaving nothing to regenerate from. / This scene was as far as the eyes could see in all directions. / I have deliberately not got any shots of the destroyed houses in respect for the locals., but unless you actually see for your self you just do not realise the destruction and desolation these fires caused. / I had a lump in my throat the whole time i was there, i was kindly taken with a friend to see there family friends place that burnt down, we were then given a tour of the area.. there are no more words…. / There is how ever hope and humor still in those who lived there.

  • View other work from this series Dangars Lagoon, Uralla, New South Wales, Australia. After the hottest summer in many years and now months without rain, I was devasted yesterday to find that the Lagoon is now bone dry. I walked right through the middle of it. The water is gone and so is the wildlife. Bring on the rain! Best viewed LARGE

  • Kinglake 3 months after the 2009 Victorian bushfires. As you drive through the scorched bush you are graced with this contrast of black and bright green. / In some places it is black with dark to light maroon. It is beautiful. Australia May 2009.

  • Giant combining robots always make me feel whole, and you know they will for you too!

  • Sony Alpha 350 DSLR 18-70 Lens, single RAW tonemapped in Photomatix then copied twice, one in glow, the 2nd in B&W and merged in Picassa Collage for an Orton type effect. This is an experiment….what do you think? / I was out for a walk today (15th Sept) in Grizedale Forest in the English Lake District. I decided to go and take a photo of one of the forest sculptures…I found I’d left it too long. This is a room carved from wood that was originally deep in the conifer plantation…the trees were the living walls. I first found it years ago (maybe 17) but this was the first time I’d gone with the DSLR. And what did I find…the conifers had been cut down leaving open views…Well, it is a working commercial forest here.
