I often perceive human features in nature. We all are capable of / developing our visual acuity the more we look at nature’s beautiful creations displayed on the bark of trees, flowers, leaves, rocks, water etc. These two leaves live very close to the leaf ladies in my portfolio that are part of their tribe. displaying magnificent colors in their faces. I enhanced the texture and color to accentuate these multi-colored leaves that had fallen from a tree creating a wonderful abstract composition. The top leaf presents different images when viewed as a profile or full face that reminds me of a puppy or a heart etc…. The imagery within the larger leaf and the surrounding environment offer a lot of material to project your unique perceptions. As usual the more I look the more I see. I just saw a blue alien on the left behind the large leaf. I took this photograph with a Macro lens to enhance the detail of the magnificent colors in their faces. The members of this leaf tribe live in a very colorful garden on the hill behind my house so I can visit / them, especially in autumn and winter when they fall from the trees. /

I hope you enjoy this pretty little butterfly that I took in my garden this past summer :) He didn’t seem to mind me poking around with my camera… I was glad of the opportunity! He didn’t stay long but I managed to get a few good shots! I adore the markings and colourings of his wings! Isn’t that red/orange colour just stunning! I’m very proud of this photo, I really love how it turned out. Looking back and my gallery from beginning to now, I can truly see how I have grown as a photographer and this fact makes me very happy and accomplished  Certainly I have a long way to go yet, but the nice thing about this hobby is that I am very passionate about it. Hopefully some day I can do something more with photography. That’ll be so amazing! Thanks to the investigative brilliance of a friend, I’ve found out the name of this pretty butterfly! It is called “American Lady – Vanessa virginiensis” They seem to be common to New England, though I am guessing generally on the East coast (since I’m in Virginia ^^;) and are under the category of “Anglewings” Camera: Taken with a Canon Rebel XTi / Cropping, small hue/tint adjustments + Sig: Adobe Photoshop CS2 © SilverDew All comments are welcomed and appreciated. I have no idea what kind of plant these leaves came from as the whole plant was found in a dry river bed that had been dry for a long time. The plant itself was nearly black. / I can’t get over the intricacy…..... / / / Copyright Notice: / All images are the property of ©Leah Highland and may not be used wholly or in part without the prior written permission by email, including copying, duplicating, manipulating, printing, / publishing (even on a web site), reproducing, storing, or transmitting by any means.

Found this leaf so fascinating when I was in Maui last year, i spent a few minutes composing with it. This was taken somewhere near Hana on Maui.
A morning of frustration and bedlam while building work was going on at home led to a slow, calming walk through Ashridge, Bedfordshire, UK. While revelling in the peace and quiet I stumbled on a dip in the forest which revealed the Autumn colours in a spot I’d never seen before. The leaves on the tree were this lovely rich colour and there was this light coming through the forest and giving the trunk a mottled effect. Everything happens for a reason. I hope you like it.
