The male counterpart to my other painting “Fallen Angel”. Here, again, the person and his shadow are reversed. Thus transforming him into a shadow of his former self. Hence the title. . . HDR image of a makeshift workshop located with the old Cellulose Factory, (old paper mill), Millicent South Australia. Great lighting and huge open factory with roof height windows capturing that late afternoon sun. Canon 400D 18-55 lens Three shot HDR adapted in Photomatix. The old datsun in for more repairs than its probably worth.
(Embankment, London). / This poor man seemed oblivious to the shower we had just had and the heavens that were about to open. Then again, maybe that was the least of his worries. I felt a bit guilty taking this shot and have never taken candid shots of others before, let alone without asking. I took it very quickly (as you can tell) and moved on. Initially I was disappointed with the taxi in the background but it almost seems fitting to show the contrast between him going nowhere right now and life whizzing passed without him even noticing. I’m now in the warm at home and probably about to have a little G&T soon… I wonder where he is or what he’s doing right now. Featured in Candid Photography
The original photo is of “statues/models” sitting on a bench (hence the plaque alongside the ‘boy’ ) in the entrance hall of what used to be the “women’s building”, part of a set of buildings in Adelaide (SA) known as the Destitute Asylum. [In my opinion] The pain, suffering and despair of the women “of disrepute” and unwanted children that passed through these doors still fills the walls and rooms (for those that can feel). Although of historic interest… I find myself unwilling and unable to enter further into this place, for reasons I shan’t go into here. To see this life-size “model” of a woman and children, at first sight, kinda takes one by surprise, “they” are hauntingly ‘real’ — “We died waiting for justice, and are still waiting for that time.” ”...the Destitute Asylum provided institutional care for women, children, the aged, destitute and the sick.”
“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.” And these righteous ones will reply, “Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?” And the King will tell them, “I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these, you were doing it to me!” Matthew 26:35-40 *photo taken in Baja CA, right before we crossed the border back into California after spending the day with the kids at Door of Faith Orphanage in Chula Vista
The second in today HDR series of a makeshift workshop found within the old Cellulose (Paper Mill) factory near Millicent South Australia. Late afternoon light streaming through the high roof windows created different lighting for this shot. HDR three shot merge in Photomatix. Canon 400D 18-55 lens.
A haunting scene as a Beggar hugs two Dogs for warmth and bows his Head in thanks as Money is put into his cap as the Sun rises for a new day on a rarely deserted Charles Bridge in Prague.

Who notices those who fall by the wayside in our daily lives?
It’s just another Thursday…............... for some / But to these little orphans it’s the highlight of their week / They line up when they see us arrive / Definitely getting a sweet, a biscuit…..... a slice of bread / With luck, some warm clothing / And next week, a blanket each, thanks to the Rotarians / Their chances of education, of a good future? / A chance for us, the more privileged, to give to those who don’t have…...... Proceeds from the sale of this image go towards helping these kids. /
Created with water-soluble oil pastels on canvas. Created on 4th April 2006.

This photograph is one of the best that I clicked while I stayed in India. I’ve a couple of more shots of these siblings, which I’ll post later on. If you feel like buying a more high-res print, just send me a message. :)
Motivated by the stunning leaf photos done by the lovely Stephanie M. Wood I decided to have a play around myself when I spied this piece of rouge foliage from a neighbors tree. I quite like the results and have posted two of my faves from the session – and while it pales in comparison to Stephanie’s work I must say a big thank you to her for the inspiration – I’ll never look at leaves the same way again! :o)
Like every Metropolis throughout the world, Cape Town has its share of the homeless and the hopeless. Those who have no hope of a better tomorrow and no cure for today’s pain.
No home, no future, no hope.
Homeless and hopeless, when tomorrow is a maybe what can still the pain?
