This shot was taken from the Destin Harbor – Destin, FL. The sunset cruises were coming in for the evening. This is one of the sunset cruises that I caught coming back into the harbor. A shot taken in Destin, Florida facing West with the Okaloosa Island fishing pier in the background. Children delightfully playing in the Gulf of Mexico in the early evening sun (here in Florida, it is always warm). Captured in the Alluvial Fan area of Rocky Mountain National Park, needless to say I am glad my tripod weighs a ton as the wind was almost unbearable when I was shooting this. From the Church of the Visitation of Our Lady, Hejnice, Jizera mountains, Czech Republic. In January/February 2002, I have visited the franciscan monastery and the Church of the Visitation of Our Lady in Hejnice for the first time, as a participant of a winter school. I was completely overwhelmed by the positive energy of this ancient place of pilgrimage! Since then, we have stayed there five or six times, enjoying all that peace and tranquility… I like this photograph a lot because it echoes the tranquility and spirituality of the place so well… But it was a bit tricky to make it finished: I didn’t have a tripod, so for making a photograph inside a church without heavy blur, I had to underexpose 2 stops or maybe more, and only now, using a scanner and image editing software, I was able to restore it. Luckily, the professional films I’m using (Kodak Supra 400 in this case) made it possible… The restoration/processing included: scanning the negative six times with analog gain of the scanner set between -1 and +1.5 stops, HDR processing to reveal the whole tonal range from illuminated wall behind the statue up to the Lady’s face in deep shadows, noise reduction, colorization, watercolor, camera distortion corrections, and curves.

Rosenborg Slot is a little castle in Copenhagen, Denmark, built of red bricks in Dutch Renaissance style. King Christian IV himself took part in its design and once the castle was finished, he used it as his summer house. Today, the Rosenborg Slot houses the Danish crown jewels. September 2007. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: distortion correction, convert to B&W, retouch, sharpening, crop, burn, contrast correction.

Muiderslot
by LenkaMuiderslot (the Muiden Castle), not far away from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is one of the best known Dutch castles. Originally built by Floris V around 1280, the castle is relatively small (32 by 35 meters, according to Wikipedia) but strong (with brick walls up to 1.5m thick), and surrounded by a moat. The castle is a popular destination for family trips, offering two children-friendly routes, that are both informative and offering some hands-on experience: the route of the towers, and the route of the knights. Regular falconry demonstrations add another highlight. Muiden, the Netherlands. October 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Taken just near Grossard Point at Ventnor, Phillip Island, Australia. My extended family use to have a house just minutes from here and we used to always walk along this part of the rocks. I always loved the red rocks in this area and wasn’t at all disappointed when I came back to get a couple of photos of them. Nature’s window in Kalbarrii National Park was my final destination of my short three days road trip in Western Australia. Well, I picked up some brochures in a hotel in Perth, and all I could find there for a day trip were either The Pinnacles or Margaret River. That’s how I made my plan, you can read about it here if you like. Kalbarri was around 700 kilometeres away and even though I really wanted to get there, I wasn’t sure if it was wise to get on such a long journey in three days.
