This early 1960’s photograph is of the Rio Motel in Wildwood, New Jersey. This picture was used in the Rio’s color postcards and brochures. The Rio Motel was demolished in 2003. I shot this lovely picture in Essaouira on the Moroccan coast with my rather tetchy Holga camera which uses 120mm film. Holgas are loved by photographers for the erratic results they produce and the interesting speckling which the plastic lens creates and random light leaks and vignetting….I know this doesn’t sound so great in this age of digital perfection, but it’s actually a very charming effect and Holga images are increasingly popular. So please note, that this is not a 100% ‘clean’ image and that’s all part of the charm!

This is the way my mind constructed this image: Another campfire situation, with the guy and his harley. It starts with a small fire, then the image of the guy holding his beer, just looking into the flames, he looks like a harley rider, so I paint the light hitting the harley, then I find another image of a harley in my collection of photos, so I put that on the other side, then I had to find a place where I could put the other rider, hmm, I thought, after drinking those three beers, he would need to relieve himself, so …there ya go.

Taken in the gardens of the charming Jellore Cottage, in the town of Berrima. Located in the Southern Highlands of NSW Australia, the town was founded in the 1860s and has become a very popular tourist destination. Technical Stuff: Nikon D80, Sigma 10-20mm lens 10mm, hand held. Program, ISO 320, 1/60 sec f6.3, Pattern metering, Auto Exp & WB. Some processing by PSE3.
