This dike was formed from underground faults and intersecting joint lines and can be found in many areas at Joshua Tree National Park. This photograph was taken across the road from the area known as Jumbo Rocks. Some information about Joshua tree: As erosion worked its way through this area it caused intusive splitting of the rocks which have become known as joints or dikes. Good examples of the joint system may be seen at Jumbo Rocks, Wonderland of Rocks, and Split Rock. Flash floods were believed to have caused erosion as they washed away the surface and left huge boulders which settled on top of each other. These are known as rockpiles. If you look carefully you can find a rockpile with a dike line like the one in this photograph and Joshua Tree National park has great expansive views making it very easy to create a nice photograph. When I returned home for a visit last year my nephew and one of my nieces were baking these glorious cupcakes and I took photos so that I could eventually draw them as they looked (and tasted!) so yummy. Well, I’ve finally managed to get one down onto paper though I really am not doing it justice …

One of 26 images for a new manuscript for a children’s picture book…… this is a combination of photography, vector, drawings and a special recipe for the overall effect. I wanted to stay with the shadows because I love the challenge of allowing little ones to use their imagination to visualize the character they want to see. I started this manuscript with my youngest as my inspiration, she loves cupcakes. I had a blast writing the Lilliput picture book and my kids really enjoyed it. I am really proud of all the hard work and how it turned out and I cannot wait until it finds a home at a house. Until then I want to keep writing and make up the illustrations. I love the challenge and the expression on my kids faces with the images that I turn out. btw…. / The cupcake is actually a first attempt over a year ago to design vector art. I never deleted it, thank goodness :).

Temptation is difficult to resist, especially when I’m tempted by such attractive morsels like these macaroons, so brightly coloured and scrumptious looking. Fortunately I find them far too sweet for my taste and am happy to admire the way they look, draw them and leave them for others to enjoy.
