  • The contract ammuses me…this character is in a suit and giving the “peace” sign and yet he look angry. hehe

  • The bravery of being out of range….... Well it’s one of those amazing statements that conjures up a similar image for everyone…WAR For me it was the pilots who were instructed to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But then I continued the train of thought…...... and as the song suggests, and Danny elaborated, we can all be accused of ‘The bravery of being out of range’. It applies to so much of our everyday life. If I had Scott’s talent I would have illustrated a woman giving birth whilst her partner looks on, a teacher in a classroom, or me! attempting to penitrate the bonds of the merry men (how do you illustrate that?). But I don’t have the talent, so what I have created comes back to my original thought….WAR. Sjem quoted “War is old men talking and young men dying” Odysseus, Troy (the movie). I love this statement but does it continue on from there? / Do we perpetuate the story by glorifying its devastation? poets are inspired to write poetry about it / historians are inspired to write documentries about it / film makers are inspired to make movies about it / artists are inspired to create art about it / musicians are inspired to play music about it / designers are inspired to design t-shirts about it (myself included) Maybe, in the end, we all encourage war one way or another – as artists, we speculate on an experience we haven’t had, and therefore are perhaps the truest version of the brave who are out of range. other work by nook

  • I put the phrase on the top and bottom of the picture to show how much some people can get involved in music, letting it take over their lives and actions. like when something bad happens on the news, and they use music or musicians to put the blame on… i guess it was kinda my answer to that. The pose of the woman was based on patricia from the horrorpops – one of my fav bands. if you look on the cover of their album ‘hell yea’ then you can see where the inspiration came from. —-—-—-——- Thank You For Viewing / Original By Emma Black / Do Not Use Without Permission

  • KUMARJI .. WAS ON MY MIND WHEN I CREATED THIS.. / A VISIT TO INIDA.. I WOULD BE IN HEAVEN… HE WOULD SHOW ME ALL THE FINE PLACES TO DINE AS WELL AS THE SAFE…AMAZING STREET SHOPS.. / KUMARJI.. THIIS ONES FOR YOU!! / OUR MUSIC KUMARJI… MY FAV SONG FOR YOU apparently Kumarji was inspired too.. below is one of his wonderful chapters from his book… this chapter he called An old fashioned elevator and I love it! The Riviera Hotel, Dubai, May, 1987 The motorized elevator mesh doors began to screech and clang to close automatically, one after the other. First the one fixed to the floor level and then the one fixed to the elevator. This contraption did not seem as dangerous to me, compared to the ones I’ve seen where you need to grab the grip with both hands, put all your might into sliding the mesh doors to close and then you can wipe all that sweat off your foreheads in the heat of summer afternoons in this desert town as well as back home in India. But this was almost midnight, quite nippy and very pleasant as the sands in the desert tend to cool as we progress into the night. Unmindful of waking up the entire hotel, I’d decided to ignore the staircase. I was far too drunk and too happy to notice that there was someone else in the elevator as well until, I ‘heard’ the movement. This seemed unusual. But I remained, just the way I was. Facing the doors, instead of turning around to see if this was a familiar guest or someone I knew. “Do you have a spare cigarette” I heard a male voice say, rather than ask. I also noticed that he’d chosen to ignore adding ‘please’ at the end of his request. But his voice sounded familiarly commanding to me. Like coming from someone I knew from the past and someone who’s used to speaking with a characteristic authority. Without turning around, I pulled out my pack of Marlborough reds and my lighter. Just as I was about to turnaround to hand him his desire, I felt his hand on my left shoulder and I stiffened. I heard him laugh. “Sonoovabitch!” he said, his laugh turning into a roar. And I turned around. “You mothafuckah!” I replied and we both burst out laughing together. Soon we lit up our cigarettes while letting out our unanimous billows of smoke through our grins, teeth and nostrils as we hugged each other. “So you’re screwing Hasina these days…eh!” he informed me. Rather than asking me. No Joseph I replied. Which also was the truth. “It is she, and I love her” I said. Realizing this for the first time, myself…and I received all the answers that I needed from my life that night… “Now would you like to press that button for ground floor! Or are we gonna stand here in this elevator for all night long?” I said.. PLEASE VIEW LARGE Here’s the thought: “what would it be like to enter an elevator and get all of lifes questions answered…. you know the old fashion type of elevator.. with the pull metal door that perhaps now you only find in freight elevators… I have been and will be working on a images that I plan to use as a series for sale as art and as a book. Elevator Instructions…Have a peek at the others.. ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… BOOK 1..How to Live / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… How To Avoid Alienation / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… When Dad Leaves / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… On Loving Lifetimes / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… On Becoming Enlightened / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… On Dining Out / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS… On Being Naked / ELEVATOR INSTRUCTIONS…On What Is Evil

If, like me you’re trying to improve all the time (not always succeeding :) ) and get some exposure and success sales-wise then you may want to check out the following sites for inspiration and also ways to direct people to your portfolio on RB: Competitions and other places to submit (some of which mentioned by various people in forums and journals) – in no particular order: Design by Humans – a well regarded ‘vote to print’ site – also has some good resources like ‘realistic’ templates to use for ‘model’ images. Tee invaders – A new competition site (haven’t checked it out yet) KingStrike – A slightly different concept – People buy the rights to your design for printing Teenormous – A great collection of shirts from around the web Threadless – No news here – everyone knows about Threadless. As I found it’s not easy to get into!! – lots of competition. It’s a community of sorts like RB, and You can add your own blog feed in your Threadless profile (so you can point it to your own blog, or your works on RB) – submission kit also has resources for ‘model’ images Shirt.w00t – another rolling competition with different challenges TeeFury – one a day – vote etc Teextile – This is brand new, and is another ‘one a day’ site. May be a good time to get something in there… Caponocca – Another competition site – $2500 for printed shirts 6 dollar shirts – Currently accepting submissions (2 colour designs) Mysoti – A fairly new POD (print on demand) site similar (in some ways) to RB, but without the community. Don’t know about the quality but the I’ve sold a couple there. Full Metal Shirt – Another competition site… Uneetee – Another US-based vote and print site Emptees – An aggregator, community and blog for your own and other’s designs Rumplo – another aggregator of other people’s designs. Unfortunately they don’t accept design suggestions from RB, but if you do a little digging you might find a way… StumbleUpon – Social bookmarking – Add your bubblesite, your blog etc – some people have reported success from this. Feedburner – Syndicate and publicise your ‘feeds’. This could be your blog, your works on RB, or pretty much anything. Feedburner allows you to get stats on the feeds, publish them elsewhere, and also create all sorts of widgets for subscribing etc. I’ve started putting the ‘stay in touch’ section in my posts to see how it goes… (might post more detail on this as it’s a bit more technical) I love your t-shirt – a sort of blog but also a place to submit designs to get seen A better tomorrow – a German design competition site Spring Leap – Another competition site (haven’t really looked yet) ModernTee – Another competition site ($250 per design) oh yeah – Zazzle and Cafepress if you want to sell mouse mats ;) FFFFound – Image bookmarking blogs that you may want to look at to find the sites yourself Competeetion – This is a great place to find out about other sites and competitions going on around the web. Hide your arms – A pretty good T blog – with the most useful post about basically every other T shirt blog. (that saves me writing the rest out under here!) TCritic – Another blog – not very frequent Fashionably geek – Clothing and accessories for the ‘well-dressed geek’ The Fresh Stock – Street wear and art TeeBurb – Tee designer community, blog – integrates with Twitter Teecraze – Nice simple syndication blog RB Tee Designers Sites / Blogs Redbubble home pages – find the historical home pages here Grandia Design – Clothing and interviews with fellow RB’ers (including ME) from the excellent Grandia Design Redbubble Twitter Twibe Bubbling under the surface – Unofficial RB Blog Diesel Laws – The mightly Diesel, now with a new full stop.
