Coloured pencils & Gold Art Pen on paper. This Mandala was created over many months; a process of adding form and colour grew from a desire to “put some pieces back together” in my life. .. It became a piece I could return to when the feeling arose, a gradual shift of focus onto the glorious, bright and colourful parts of my life. I call it a clown chakra as that is how I imagine mine might look! Traditionally, chakras relate to the energy centres within a person, whereby the life force flows through. This is really a playful and cheeky approach to depicting an “energy centre” I have visualised. Zia Keresean (language of the Zia Pueblo [and other Keres pueblos] in New Mexico) for Sun. New Mexico’s distinctive insignia is the Zia (Sun) Symbol, which originated with the Indians of Zia Pueblo (north central New Mexico) in ancient times. Its design reflects their tribal philosophy, with its wealth of pantheistic spiritualism teaching the basic harmony of all things in the universe. Four is the sacred number of Zia, and the figure is composed of a circle from which four points radiate. These points made up of four straight lines of varying length personify the number most often used by the Giver of all good gifts. To the Zia Indian, the sacred number is embodied in the earth, with its four directions; in the year, with its four seasons; in the day, with the sunrise, noon, evening, and night; in life, with its four divisions—childhood, youth, manhood, and old age. Everything is bound together in a circle of life and love, without beginning, without end. The Zia believe, too, that in this great brotherhood of all things, man has four sacred obligations: he must develop a strong body, a clear mind, a pure spirit, and a devotion to the welfare of his people. This is the symbol which adorns the flag of New Mexico.

Kiss me darling… A kiss is the touching of one person’s lips to another place, which is used as an expression of affection, respect, greeting, farewell, good luck, romantic affection or sexual desire. The word comes from Old English cyssan “to kiss”, in turn from coss “a kiss”. Anthropologists have not reached a conclusion as to whether kissing is learned or a behavior from instinct. It may be related to grooming behavior also seen between other animals, or arising as a result of mothers premasticating food for their children. Kissing allows prospective mates to taste and smell each other’s pheromones for biological compatibility. Women are subconsciously more attracted to men whose major histocompatibility complex portion of their genome is different from their own, leading to offspring with resistance to a greater number of diseases due to heterosis, and thus having a better chance of survival. Non-human primates also exhibit kissing behavior. Dogs, cats, birds and other animals display licking and grooming behavior among themselves, but also towards humans or other species. This is sometimes interpreted by observers as a type of kissing.

I reach out for her / Draw her to me / My hand skims her body / Slowly reaches her skirt. Playful fingers find hidden areas / Delighted her legs spring forth / Displaying the very beauty / Of her delicately placed, adorned skirt. Gaily she dances around / Dizzily twisting and turning / In the brightness of day shading / She gently tends to my needs.
