‘Asia Series’ card by Karin Taylor A more serious piece this time. A painting inspired by the art form of the Geisha. Her discipline and strength I admire. I have used ink, acrylic, charcoal and pastels to create Geisha Girl. The original painting is no longer available, but so glad she can come to you in the form of a greeting card. A surrealistic piece I did ages ago. It’s possibly the illustration I’m most proud of. I had put a lot of time and effort developing this style for myself. It borrows aspects of anime movie style illustration from movies such as – Ghost in the shell and Patlabor, aswell as every Hayao Miyazaki film. It was hand drawn. I started with the Geisha then added the other elements separately similarly to how an animator might build up a scene. Detail:

The design has been digitally enhanced with a few minor touches in Photoshop. I recently broke my left elbow in my skateboard debut…...it hurt…...so, big points to the rest of you skateboarders out there for sticking with….but my skater girl days are over bigtime!!! lol

/ ’’Asian Series’ card by Karin Taylor This is one of my favourite pieces in the oriental series. / Two little friends falling asleep in their little boats whilst fishing for their supper. / I really enjoyed mixing the colours for this painting, I used colour swatches from paint charts to decide on the colour scheme, and just went to work intuitively mixing til I got the right colours…they are grungier than my other pics and I love the effect…hope you like them too :D

I.M. Pei’s Miho Museum, on a mountain ridge in a nature preserve in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, an hour’s drive from Kyoto. The Miho Museum houses Mihoko Koyama’s private collection of Asian and Western antiques belonging to Mihoko Koyama (after whom it is named), the heiress to the Toyobo textile business, and one of the richest women in Japan. This photo shows the tunnel leading into the museum that cuts through the mountain. It`s a 200-metre curve, silent and echoless, and ends with the cables of a half suspension bridge 120 meters across a deep, narrow gorge. Its a stunning museum. If you`re ever in Japan, please check out this hidden gem. !
