Desiderata (Latin for “desired things”) You are a child of the universe, / no less than the trees and the stars; / you have a right to be here. / And whether or not it is clear to you, / no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, / whatever you conceive Him to be, / and whatever your labors and aspirations, / in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, / it is still a beautiful world. CREDITS: / Thank you very much to these wonderful stock artists. Without their genius, thev realization of the concepts in such pieces and works will remain specs of dust inside ones mind. noree-stock / Ahrum-Stock / cheeseinthestock / Hameed / Adaae-stock / sxc.hu / manicho
I fiddled with this drooping purple daisy so much that this is how it ended up!! So … added the phrase which I felt suited the subtle sketched look. SOLD a large framed print to an anonymous buyer March 2009! Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM
The famous poem by Max Ehrmann. “Go placidy amid the noise and haste, / and remember what peace there may be in silence.”
Medium used: Coloured pencil / Here is the drawing finally done! This took about a week….and hundreds of hours! / The scrolls you see have the entire poem “Desiderata” written on them. / There’s lizards, chooks, cows with gus, a dragon reading “The hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy”.....there are two naked women….ants, caterpillars and butterflies. / (There’s even a couple of mice, ferrets, rabbits and a spider in there too!) / This was created for a dear friend of mine. / I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I do!
Looks like the dawn light of the desert… and yet… it’s very near my home on a very cold morning. LavenderMoon~

I have just placed this here for you all to read … its a piece of text that I first encountered when I was approx 19yrs old and I try to lead my life this way when humanly possible … I hope it is good reading for you if you have never seen it before : - written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s - / Not “Found in Old St. Paul’s Church”!—see below Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, / and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, / be on good terms with all persons. / Speak your truth quietly and clearly; / and listen to others, / even to the dull and the ignorant; / they too have their story. / Avoid loud and aggressive persons; / they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, / you may become vain or bitter, / for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. / Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. / Keep interested in your own career, however humble; / it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, / for the world is full of trickery. / But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; / many persons strive for high ideals, / and everywhere life is full of heroism. / Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. / Neither be cynical about love, / for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, / it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, / gracefully surrendering the things of youth. / Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. / But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. / Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, / be gentle with yourself. / You are a child of the universe / no less than the trees and the stars; / you have a right to be here. / And whether or not it is clear to you, / no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, / whatever you conceive Him to be. / And whatever your labors and aspirations, / in the noisy confusion of life, / keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, / it is still a beautiful world. / Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I will not get in your box. I will not be labeled. / You can push me from all sides, World, and I refuse to get in. / Show me apathy, impatience, ignorance and despair. Give it your best shot. / I won’t become numb. I WILL still care. / I won’t be ashamed by my outrage at injustice. / I will speak my mind despite the ‘political incorrectness’ of my opinions. / I will be unique, despite your attempts to make me graze in the field with the other sheep when I want to climb mountains instead. / I will not be quieted. I will not be tamed. / I will feel every moment of my life and live it / like the wild and precious thing it is.
A self-portrait photo collage. When I made this, I was dealing with a devestating loss and the need to move past a toxic friendship. It was a heartbreaking time, and I took a lot of comfort in a copy of the Desiderata by Max Ehrman that hung on the wall in my classroom. “Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, / and remember what peace there may be in silence.
