Arches National Park during 40 minutes of night
Crawling along the sunbaked, cracked caliche earth, two beetles come head to head in a desert encounter.
Arches had some really great trees along the trail…
The pastures in the desert overflow [with richness]. The hills are surrounded with joy. (Psalm 65:12) I took this photo of Monument Valley, Arizona, back in 1997 with my Olympus OM-10 camera. Camera technology sure has come a long ways. / I loved the views back then and then saw it again in 2008. The landscaping looked different for me then. It did not seem as awe-inspiring as when I was 32 years old, but then again, is it times that change or people? This is best viewed as a larger image. This was taken as is,scanned from my OM-10 Olympus Camera, untouched. / /
Tired in the red rock hills with only the saddle left.
Coots are always defending their territory. These birds fight in the water by slapping each other with their large powerful feet. They may fight to the death, with the dominant bird holding the other under water until it drowns. Most often the defeated coot will swim a long way under water to escape. This bout ended in a draw.

I shot this image after the sun had disappeared below the horizon. Monument Valley is one of these locations that is photographed thousands of times every day and I wanted to show something different. I hope you like it.

The Hohokam Indians lived in southwest Arizona from about 800AD until 1300AD when they inexplicitly disappeared. During the time that they and their communities were evident, they built a very large structure by the current city of Coolidge, Arizona. This site hs been perserved and the ruins are now under the care of the National Park Service and can be viewed and studied in great detail. This image was taken of the Casa Grande. It is now covered with a large open roof to help preserve the ruins. I took this shot without including that structure as i felt it distracted from the sight of the ruin.
One of the “Must Have’s” in the desert is an inner courtyard where you can control the water system and the intense heat with a (usually) 5 foot wall that encloses the front of your house. This is an oasis for us and stays alive with alternate blooming of the different and varied plants that will live all year long. / / / /

This geologic structure in The Valley of Fire – Nevada State Park is so named for obvious reasons. The sandstone in this park has innumerable amazing and varied shapes. The sculpting has occured over the ages due to wind, sand and water. This park offers many truely breath-taking landscapes.
