Death Valley in the late afternoon. The dunes are a good place for a photo op as the sun lowers.
Death Valley Sand Dunes @ Stove Pipe Wells. I was trying to find an “alternative” view to a scene that has been photographed thousands of times. The image was shot in infrared and a gradient was added to the sky to give some separation.

Dark brooding storm clouds (in a most fascinating formation) roll over the red sands of the desert today, bringing with them the long forgotten pleasures of rain. Captured at Uluru (1st November 2008). [Creative Effects: Brightness/contrast/shadow adjustments, omni spotlight with Photoshop]
My sisters and I / Have one wish before we die. / And it may sound strange / As if our minds are deranged. / Please don’t ask us why / Beneath the sheltering sky / We have this strange obsession / You have the means in your possession. Tea in the Sahara with you. / Tea in the Sahara with you. The young man agreed / He would satisfy their need / So they danced for his pleasure / With a joy you could not measure. / They would wait for him here / The same place every year. / Beneath the sheltering sky / Across the desert he would fly…... / Tea In The Sahara – by – The Police Model: Audrina / Photography by http://rebecca-parker.deviantart.com/ – Rebecca Parker. The Namib Desert, Namibia, Southern Africa. Taken around 4pm. We had spent a good few hours trekking through the desert, with a guide showing us everything a person would need to know to survive out there alone. This was about 5 minutes away from the spot where Forsaken was taken. It’s such a vast expanse of desolation. The idea of being caught out here on your own is terrifying. Extreme temperatures and scorching sun by day, and near freezing temperature at night, it’s a place to visit, but not to stay. I wanted to capture some of that isolated, barren and incredibly steep surfaces of the dunes. I chose b&w to enhance the emptiness and ‘desertion’. Minor adjustment of contrast and saturation to enhance the dune shadows. Sold as a Matted Print Canon SX100IS MCN: C7B06-8EFFC-307D0

Behold, I will do a new thing, / Now it shall spring forth; / Shall you not know it? / I will even make a road in the wilderness / And rivers in the desert. / ~Isaiah 43:19 Stock Credits: / http://machaimatsuda.deviantart.com/ / http://night-fate-stock.deviantart.com/ / http://www.sxc.hu/ / Jean Scheijen | www.vierdrie.nl

Scanned slide. It’s been a while since these slides have seen the light of day… so I’ve been having fun revisiting them! Also, reliving the trips I took to take them. Anyone who has been in the Australian outback would have to agree it’s an incredible experience and one that stays with you forever. I have been blessed to have been included on two trips with some dear photographer friends of mine. Both were quite some time ago now and I sometimes find that my memory of where things were exactly taken has become hazy… so you’ll have to forgive me when I say… “somewhere in the Strezlecki Desert” ! I did keep a log of all photographs taken at the time (when, where, etc…) but after several moves it seems to have disappeared… bugger! If you haven’t been outback yet… you should definitely put it on the “to do” list… I know it’s back on mine… : )) Featured in the Outback Australia group
I did this for my own indulgence, playing with layers for weeks. It was great fun. Oil on Canvas.
After long journey through heaps of sand, you suddenly see the water… Desert is sly, you never know if water is real… you may try to reach it for ages and it will slowly fade away… Nikon D80, Nikkor 12-24 Feature in: / Landscape Photography / JPG Cast-Offs / Colour and Light / Dimensions
