Wikipedia; ” Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid/paste is then applied to a surface — usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used. The simplest encaustic mixture can be made from adding pigments to beeswax, but there are several other recipes that can be used — some containing other types of waxes, damar resin, linseed oil, or other ingredients. Pure, powdered pigments can be purchased and used, though some mixtures use oil paints or other forms of pigment. Metal tools and special brushes can be used to shape the paint before it cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface. Today, tools such as heat lamps, heat guns, and other methods of applying heat allow artists to extend the amount of time they have to work with the material. Because wax is used as the pigment binder, encaustics can be sculpted as well as painted. Other materials can be encased or collaged into the surface, or layered, using the encaustic medium to adhere it to the surface. This technique was notably used in the Fayum mummy portraits from Egypt around 100-300 CE, in the Blachernitissa and other early icons, as well as in many works of 20th-century American artists, including Jasper Johns. Encaustic art has seen a resurgence in popularity since the 1990s with people using electric irons, hotplates and heated stylus on a variety of different surfaces including card, paper and even pottery. The iron makes producing a variety of artistic patterns elementary. However, the medium is not limited to just abstract designs, it can be used to create complex paintings, just as other media such as oil and acrylic “

I’ve been gone for a while. (I like how I say that like anyone noticed…sigh…I need to stop deluding myself.) Things have been exceptionally busy lately, both professionally and personally. Hopefully things will be slowing down over the next few weeks because, to be quite honest, I’m a little tired. Scratch that and make it a lot tired. In fact, I’m so tired that I’m falling asleep right at this very instant in front of my computer. o;hara;ksdffff;qerhfer;h; Oops, that was my head slamming into the keyboard. See, told you I was tired. Plus, now I have a sore head. G’night. Steve~

Why I’m writing this, just showed my boyfriend my latest drawing, and after seeing it he said oh I like it, it’s very good(duuuh what else?)...., but what does it mean? I’m really disapointed here, do people really need things spelled out for them, are we so used having everything packed and delivered that we can’t be bothered to sit down and spend a minute trying to understand. He’s an artist and I know he can think, I’ve seen him do it, so, out of practice maybe? For me art is language, is my way of communicating with the rest of you out there, now some people get along and some don’t, I’m interested in people that think and reason, people that want to find out and decipher the message, curiosity is such an important trait in people, why stop exercising that, people will just get used to being told what to think. Art is emotion, if what i was thinking about when i was drawing something doesn’t get through, maybe I’m not good enough, maybe we have different points of view, maybe there’s more to it than I even know, opera perta, art that speaks for itself, and has more than one meaning, people are subjective, they feel and understand things differently, if I write there, what that drawing is about then you know and I have no idea if what I’ve done is actually as powerful as it’s supposed to be.How will I connect to anyone through it? There should be a standard set and people should be encouraged to think for themselves and not just trust my word, and maybe those 2 sticks represent the duality of nature, good and evil and so on, honestly they do, it’s not just 2 freaking sticks that are lifeless and pointless and if someone bought you a picture with no instructions you’d think it’s crap, I can write a description and find a meaning to anything, want to try me out, do it, send me a random image and I’ll come up with a deep powerful meaning to it, I am that good at bs. Have a wonderful day.
Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which exists independently of visual references to the world
Many people have described Moorea as the most beautiful place on earth, and it’s this magical island that inspired James Michener to write about mythical “Bali Hai.” Moorea is only 11 miles from Tahiti, and one of the features that is so striking about this island is the jagged peaks and spires that give the island its unique profile. The volcanic peaks, reflected in the tranquil waters of Cook’s bay and Opunohu’s bay, rise like a shark’s jaw from the island’s basaltic base and reach into the clouds. Below, valleys are blanketed with the colors and white sand beaches border magnificent crystalline lagoons. Moorea’s lagoon, along with Bora Bora’s, is one of the most beautiful in the Society Islands, and harbors 3 “motus” (small islands). Moorea is a favorite of all who venture to the South Seas. Here, you’ll find the real South Seas experience – a casual, barefoot existence amidst white sand beaches, multi-hued lagoons and, of course, quaint Tahitian-style hotels offering plenty of sun and fun activities.

This shot is uploaded specifically for the challenge “Define Yourself” of the WOMAN PHOTOGRAPHER Group. Mariarena is the artistic name I chose when I decided to awaken my camera and give my creativity a second chance. I studied photography many years ago, but life took me to the typical hectic existence of a working “mother of four”. There were no choices until recently… I chose to retire, to live in a beach apartment, to go back to photography and I even chose my name Mariarena… it means “Mar y Arena” in Spanish or “Sand and Sea” in English. / All of my latest choices define who I am today… a creative woman who lives by the seashore enjoying the magic of the sand interacting with the water. / This shot of the seashore defines who I am today , as it is walking in the sand that I have found strength, happiness and self assurance. I have even found an erotic subconscious manifested in many of my photos of sand formations in my RB’s portfolio, but decided not to use a sensual one for fear of being too provocative. Many of my sand and seashore abstract photos in my portfolio are witnesses of who I am. / I have shared with you my inner truth! /
Yes, I did actually manage to read all 4 massive books in the ‘Twilight’ series while my computer was ‘sick’. So – for a bit of ‘light relief’ – my take on the traditional ‘vampire’. I know this one doesn’t actually ‘match’ any of the wonderful vampire characters in ‘Twilight’ (by Stephanie Meyer) – the only vampire there with flaming red hair definitely comes across as a ‘bad guy’ – not one willing or able to join the good, ‘vegetarian vampire coven’ that the story is based around. / But – I just couldn’t see myself creating an image of something with fangs and a lot of fake blood – so bright red hair has to substitute. A ‘vampire’ maybe not willing or able to clearly show him or herself as she is to the outside non-supernatural world? A composite image created from many of my own photographs. The word hectic never fully describes my life… I think that if I was obseving my plate balancing, twiriling life I would be somewhat amused. I feel like I am balancing on a large balls whilst rolling down a hill spinning plates…. It seems that oscillation is the key here. When something goes wrong it goes really wrong, then something good comes of it. Take for example the exhaust fell off my car at a majorly busy roundabout. Imagine the stress that could cause… I really could not be bothered with the stress but to my delight two rather lovely gentleman used my boot lace to tie the exhaust back on. Not only did I make it home I made it to the garage. So you see from bad comes good. I could have been left to figure it out amongst the traffic but no – help came quickly and at the perfect time…. I thought I would share that with you all because it seems that is the way of my life… I wonder whether other people experience the same.
This shot was taken on a broody still morning on a swamp in the lowlands of Papua New Guinea. The local name for swamp is ‘tais’, a much more beautiful and apt name than ‘swamp’. Clear water, fish, crocodile tracks, and the locals with their dugout canoe expertise made the day.

How many times have you viewed a piece of art or a photography and thought,”oh I wonder where that is?”,so have gone to the description only to find there is nothing there,Well I for one am guilty of this, but of late I have started to be more diligent and I am including better descriptions of my work ,where the photo was taken ,maybe how I got there or something funny that happened while I was there t,the mood I was in perhaps. / I think this adds to the work for the buyer can then tell the story to people who comment on it when it’s hanging up / Nothing worse than being asked a question ,and replying “I dont Know ”,I mean would you hang a beautiful portrait in your house if you didn’t know who it was ,...of course you would not ,I think this is how buyers view our art and photography ,they want to feel connected to it in someway, and know something about the picture and or artist ,so please try to take a little more time when uploading your beautiful works,I know I am more aware of this now,so I am trying.
