For quite some time now,about 3 months,I have been experiencing a lot / of pain throughout my body that the doctor’s can’t seem to pinpoint. This piece / was inspired by my tarot card drawing for yesterday.

A very old analouge negative taken on Boxing Day some twenty odd years ago. This girl was living with my younger sister in Darlinghurst in Sydney at the time and yes there were drugs involved. Neither of them survived the experience. All I have left is some very old photo’s and my memories. To death us do drug. Was that a challenge, a motto or a promise. I could never work it out.

Where Shadows Cry she came to a place where shadows cry / silenced tongue sings no relief, no sigh / draws only sorrow nigh steps unseen on a fogged covered ground / a broken heart beat, the only sound / solace sought but not found playing where the shadows hide / staying where the shadows chide a cutting blade lashes at her soul / it bleeds her heart, taking on control / her inner light it stole a searing scream begging for release / the red drops fall, the pain will not cease / sting of wounds brings no peace falling where the shadows dwell / calling where the shadows yell now a calmness seed drops in her head / a ray of strength leading heart, it said / come follow me instead some scars are left where anger was placed / in her mind’s eye, some sanity disgraced / bitter lessons now faced burning from the shadows rip / turning from the shadows grip Author: Roger Sampson

yesterday I attemped to have a conversation with someone about what consitutes a ‘real photographer’. rather that respond he reacted by telling me I’m a negative psyhco bitch, the only bad thing about Redbubble and should hurry out to buy razor blades and kill myself. no shit! I guess this means I’ll never be a ‘real photographer’ so to celebrate my freedom from the label of ‘real’ I’ve decided to concentrate on posting some UNREAL photographs. Here’s the first. This is a chance shot taken while someone slept in the set of an alternative theatre production some years ago. Vale Peter your real to me still though you are no longer real in a corporeal sense.

Self Portrait Taken on a Back Alley Atelier expedition to an unused mental health facility in rural Victoria. This particular image was taken on the floor of the morgue which was icy cold and sterile and unlike the rest of the facility, kept clean and relatively dust free. www.joobrien.com.au

Oil pastels on black A3 paper. / used a reference photo a wonderful friend took of me. thank you so much for that. / Classical style isn’t it. I’m enjoying oil pastels at the moment. I’m looking into blending techniques mostly. And yay! foreshortening! A lil. A girl full of hate falls in love too easily for her own good. kicking and screaming into paradise just to burn it down in an attempt to keep warm by a fire. she can hold back the tears but she can’t stop causing them. Oh how it hurts, more than ripping slowly at her own flesh, unstoppable by the numbing vodka that burns it’s way down her throat, keep swallowing, don’t breathe, maybe you’ll choke on it you stupid girl.
