The descend from the mount Elit was quite an experience. Only later our guide told us how many accidents happened on this track. We made 1000 meters down in 2 hours, while not moving more than perhaps 100 meters forward. The kind of a pile of sticks on the bottom of the picture is a prototype Papuan ladder. It was semi-helical, extremely slippery and missed lots of steps. I took the photo while waiting for my friends to get completely down, didn’t want to fall on their heads with the whole wobbly contraption. Irian Jaya (Indonesian Papua), Jayawijaya mountains – still some 3500 m.o.s.l.

At dawn, I walked out to take a picture of a very stunning sunrise. I watched as a heavy fog rolled in like a wave. I was taking images for HDRI, so I was snapping off images fast. Later when I went through the images, I was amazed how fast the fog came in. It had such an eerie feel to it.

The Golden Gate Bridge was barely visible in this dense morning fog. From a cliff overlooking the bay, the north pillar was visible as well as a misty outline of the San Francisco skyline in the distance. Built in 1933, the bridge was completed 5 years later in 1937. It is a part of US Highway 101 and State Route 1, and is the only road to exit San Francisco to the north. A bit of trivia: The suspension bridge is 8,981 feet in length and is 200+ feet above the water. It has a total of approximately 1.2 million rivets holding it together. Another from the couple of hours I was shooting at Bunkyou Civic Centre the other evening.This one was shot a little after the sun had gone down showing the amazing Shinkousha [Cocoon] building in Shinjuku on the right with the twin towers of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, Tocho, to the left. Mount Fuji had been hidden in cloud for most of the time me and mhy buddy Jonathan were shooting. But, for just ten minutes or so, it poked its head out the clouds. Snap! Gotcha. The following is a list of the fires burning in Shasta County alone………..(an excerpt from the Redding Record Searchlight). / Fire Update: June 25, 2008 / Fire information / Here are the fire acreages as of 10 p.m. Tuesday: / Democrat Fire: 360 acres; no estimated containment. / Donkey Mine Fire: 360 acres; no estimated containment. / Iron Complex: 36 fires burning 2,910 acres; 5 percent contained. / Kirkman Fire: 2,400 acres; no estimated containment. / Lime Complex: More than 70 fires burning 7,500 acres; 10 percent contained. / Noble Fire: More than 2,000 acres; no estimated containment. / Pine Fire: 1,200 acres; no estimated containment. / Shingletown Fire: 475 acres; 80 percent contained. / Venture Fire: 1,000 acres; 40 percent contained. / Whiskeytown fires: Four fires at a total of 2,100 acres; no estimated containment. / Withrow Fire: 200 acres; 30 percent contained. / Zogg Mine Road fires: 74 acres; 80 percent contained. / We are surrounded by fires in every direction, though none are real close……probably the closest is now about 10 miles away……..some smaller ones have been contained and a few even put out entirely, only to have new ones begin………there is an inversion layer which is keeping the smoke and ash extremely low….this is the very worst I have seen it here in thirty-five years. The air quality is unbearable…………WE NEED RAIN! Ferns and underbrush, Perseverance Trail, Juneau, Alaska” / ignoring the boring excursions on our alaska cruise, instead we did some googling and found interesting day hikes in juneau and skagway – this one started right at the edge of town, and went up the steep side of the mountain overlooking the city. then opened up to fantastic valley and more ferns than we’d ever seen
