Last year, while on holiday in Denmark, and I was determined to capture the beauty of the place, I’ve kept coming back to the last 10 years. / It’s a calm place called Køge, an hour from Copenhagen. / I got up every morning at 4 to catch the sunrise, but it was always overcast and dull. / Finally, after about a week of early mornings with no great results, there was a sunrise worth watching.

Greens Pool / Denmark-western Australia On one of the few days we got decent light I was lucky enough to be in this location. I love the crack filled with water and the soft light hitting the rocks. Fredensborg Palace is the summer residence of the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark – Frederick and Mary and is not open to public. Nevertheless, it was still exciting to admire the castle which by the way it’s appearance is relatively modest compared to the other palaces . It was built in the 18th century and stands on a hill and overlooks a lake . The palace is in the centre of a baroque style semi-circular garden from which seven alleys radiate into the surrounding woodlands – it is described today that the palace residence and the garden as the ” best in Denmark”.

Denmark is a small town just a handful of kms inland from the Southern Ocean in the south west of Western Australia about 450 kms south of Perth and 50 kms west of Albany. The beaches in the area are just magnificent but, not so widely acknowledged, is it’s river, seen here as it is about to pass under the highway bridge. I took this last autumn in fairly early morning light which served to bring out the colours rather well. All it then required were a few minor tweaks in Photoshop and this is the result
