Airmid was created in honor of one of my grandmothers. I used a vintage photo of her, taken when she was 18. She was sitting in bright sunlight, wearing a dark colored dress with a sailor collar. I loved the high contrast of her face and how she is looking down, so I cropped her head and printed it on paper we made from cornhusks. Also included in this piece is potpourri, acrylic paint, and a wand constructed of a branch, raffia, wire, and glass beads and gems. From my Goddess series, Airmid is the Celtic goddess of herbal healing, and she stood guard over the Well of Slaine in Ireland. She is said to live in the mountains of Ireland yet today, healing faeries and humans who need her help. Water is her element.
This 8” x 10” weaving in a handmade frame is “Brigid’s Loom”. It is pasticcio of fibers, yarn, ribbon, and handmade papers woven through wires colored with alcohol inks and then twisted when taken off the loom. The frame is a foamcore piece gessoed, layered with molding paste, handmade paper, acrylic paints, and embellished with small beads. It is part of a series of about 20 pieces in a similar vein.
Simply that. A short road trip to Wicklow with Terry in his old Ford Escort. Originally a black and white shot a friend, Dave did a whole lot of post pro on the image in photoshop including multiple layering of Denise’s shades in varying dpi so that when you shone a torch on the print it looked like you could see “through” the glasses…? It looked like that but whether that would have happened anyway I have no idea but it was a phenomenal success at the time so I have always credited Dave as co-author of this image. / Models: Denise, Orla / Set: Terry’s Car / Image: Phil & Dave
exploding beard combs. for the hippy whose hypocrisy drove me wild the other day. / not that i imagine he combs that thing. yurgh… yeah i know… that was random. / charcoal and chalk. rained on so rainwater too. This piece, I believe, looks far more powerful now that it has been smudged and torn by the sad and kind of pathetic lack of organisation, lack of any kind of control at this stage within my life. A direct reflection, I suppose. / I find gothic architecture some of the most beautiful in the world. This was originally sketched from a photograph of St Denise Cathedral somewhere in France. / I built a frame for it early in my career, which now seems to have evaporated like many of my pairs of underwear from that time. / Damn. Just lit the wrong end of my cigarette. Sigh. And HOW MUCH HAVE I CHANGED?? / /
Belisama rises from flames and reaches to the blue sky. It’s a 6” x 12” canvas of acrylic paint, handmade, and commerical papers collaged with gel medium. From my goddess series, Belisama or “Summer Bright” was a goddess of the ancient Celts. She was a goddess of fire, forge, and crafts. There is evidence that she is related to the Roman goddess Minerva, which makes sense if you consider the interrelatedness of cultures during the expansion of the ancient Roman Empire into Gaul and Britain.

Denise’s cocktail is not only snazzy, it is blue! Not sad blue, but fun blue…how did you make a drink THAT blue, blue! The truth is, it is important to her that her drinks coordinate with her outfits.

This is my first “Denise” design (or any drawing of a person) done completely on the computer. Not bad for a first try.
