The bluebird’s house was covered with snow here in the Deep South and he was none too happy! Last summer, he settled down here thinking it would be temperate and sunny all year through, but it just wasn’t so. “Hey, I demand a refund!” the disgruntled fellow snapped to whoever was willing to listen. (Postscript: this image is dedicated to Jesika who inspired me to try my hand at relocation! Thanks, Jesika; this is way too much fun! Hope you don’t mind my borrowing your technique).

2008 / 72×108cm / 6 steel plate, 5 colour etching & aquatint This work is based on the colours and textures that surround my home in Collinsvale, a small village north of Hobart, Tasmania. It is also a reflection on the way we relate to the environment and will hopefully raise questions about the way that we (mis)use our natural resources. A finalist in the Port Jackson Press (Melbourne) Graduate Printmaking Award 2009. Congratulations to a worthy winner.

One reason I love animal photography is the unpredictability. There was no warning that this venting of anger was going to happen. It was there and gone in seconds. Note: If he gets this mad about having his picture taken, what is he like when he is really angry. Note: In my teenage years I would have paid a great deal of money to have a poster of this for my room. I guess I haven’t grown up much. I want a poster of this. (Taken in the Los Angeles Zoo with a Nikon D300 using an Nikkor 80-400 f3.5-5.6 lens. Five different exposures of one image was combined into the HDR image above). Today at Taronga Zoo in Sydney’s leafy suburb of Mosman, we, my two beautiful daughters and myself saw some amazing creatures and although our feet ached and our bodies are in melt down, I am glad I took over 450 photo’s. There was so much we didn’t see, after getting lost several times, and yes, even with a map, however the day was perfect and the creatures adorable! / Here is the Tiger sleeping comfortably in the enclosure without a care in the world. I used a Florence Scovell Shinn affirmation for my title.
