A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities – this is a little nook in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. HDR image processed in Photomatix from a single jpeg (with 3 exposures 1/3) then finished in CS3. Bodie Ghost Town in the Seirra Nevada Mountains in Eastern California. This 1800’s Gold town once had a thriving population of 10,000 people. It was a true wild western town with gun fights, saloons and a huge redlight district.
Another take on The Basin. - SOLD an unframed print of this at Gallery26 early 2008 / My own HDR version of this Won 2nd place in Something Old Category, Hawkesbury Show (NSW Australia) Photographic competition May 2009 / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM
“This Old House” Series Dank dark air, moss and boards close in the time, lives and memories of families that once filled these rooms. If homes have a life, then this one has passed away. / /
This Austin A70 is a permanent feature amongst the gum-trees on my father-in-law’s top paddock. You can tell how long it’s been sitting there by the branches growing in, around and over its body! A bit of a play with selective colouring - this old Anglia, I discovered later, is ‘home’ to a charming red belly black snake. Not sure that I’ll be going to this location again in a hurry!! SOLD a mounted print Nov 08 to an anonymous RB buyer! THANK YOU!!! / SOLD a laminated print May 09 to another anonymous RB buyer! Another big THANK YOU!!! Along with the old Dodge truck and a few other rusted vehicles, this tractor has been pushed to the side of a dirt road not far from my home. I thought she deserved to be dressed up and immortalised (being the rusty, crusty freak that I am!!) ... so here she is! / / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM /
A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities. I love this old basin (not the first old washbasin to pop up in my portfolio!!!) in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Another collaboration with RichardShepherd’s magic touch. This time three old windows in the delapidated army barracks at Scheyville National Park on the northwest outskirts of Sydney. / THANK YOU SHEPY!!! / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM
Taken from inside an old shed, cobwebs and all. I liked the light, and the way the window framed the old house outside. No extra lighting added to this . . . / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM / /
Scooter off Widderlings Lane on My Way To work
One of my very first watercolor paintings, done in a college watercolor course several decades ago, this painting was awarded an “honorable mention” in a Milwaukee Journal Art Awards Program. I am adding it now primarily to support the new group, Dilapidated Buildings, a subject which has always intrigued and inspired me. The inspiration for this painting was an old shed that once existed somewhere near Monroe, Wisconsin, in Green County.
There are plenty more doors like this in old Kazimierz, Cracow, Poland. From the photographer’s view, I hope they don’t get the attention or they wouldn’t look the same!
This is the second shot of the rusty old shed near my house in the Manning Valley NSW
Was driving past an old warehouse the other day and i noticed all these old barrels. You cant notice from this photo but whatever was in these barrels has killed the grass around the barrels. So i am assuming they were full of some sort of chemical or something of the likes. Image is HDR and had some stuff done to it in photoshop. Proceeds from any sales of this photo will be donated to the Cancer Council as my brother was recently diagnosed with a rare type of Cancer. Thank goodness they think they got it all out but he is still undergoing Radiotherapy. His treatment and free accomodation wouldnt be possible without the great work from the Cancer Council.
