Sometimes beauty is in itself defiance.

Begin to hope and all the colors start to change / Beneath the light you might forget that the world’s so sad / You might forget that things are awfully bad - Regina Spektor, “Begin to Hope” Model: Rachael

It’s paradoxical how we can find ourselves when we lose ourselves. When we got “lost” in the wonder of God’s creation, we find something deep and abiding within. Standing under this majestic old oak which has defied the force of gravity by remaining upright in spite of a badly eroded base, a person gets lost in the mystery and the beauty of the exposed tangle of roots but finds a sense of awe and wonder in the Creator who makes the seemingly impossible possible.
An extremely weathered old jetty grimly stands defiant amidst the advancing mangroves in Westernport Bay. The mozzies and knee deep mud was well worth the experience of witnessing the twilight from this location. / Fuji G617 – Velvia 100F. / ©T.Middleton2008 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / / see more of my TRUE panoramic photography by clicking on the image below / / -
This taxidermist-mounted, full-size mountain goat was featured near a tent in Alabama along the route for the World’s Longest Yard Sale. He was a magnificent animal perched on his own little mountain. He rates high as one of the quirkest things I saw for sale that day. But with his $1,000+ price tag, I had to leave him behind. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, The World’s Longest Yard Sale is held every August and stretches from Gadsden, Alabama to Defiance, Ohio along Highway 127. There are 4 days to cover more than 630 miles of yards sales. Please don’t copy or download this image. My photos may NOT be reproduced and/or used in any form without my written permission. If you want this photograph, I would be honored for you to purchase it. ©2008 Patricia Montgomery | Bucks Mountain Galleries All rights reserved.

Continuing the series…
....I wanted to capture the essence of the struggle of artists who perform or do art despite circumstances. For me, still playing is very personal… since my father banned us children from learning musical instruments… He didn’t think it was a good career move, to be in the arts, being traumatized earlier by our great granddad who left his family penniless since he died a poor pianist. For me, this is rebellion against creative oppression. Although i did not follow a musical path, I entered the realm of visual arts. And it doesn’t matter where you put the artist, or whatever the situation. True artists will create no matter what.
Just hanging on. Last petal on the poppy holding on against the wind and weather. A bit of trial SC work with this one, attempting to show the beauty of the petal just prior to dropping off into the darkness. Canon 400D Sigma 70-300 macro lens. Photoshop CS3 for Selective Colouring work.
A signed, original, oil and acrylic painting. The Native American people are one of my favorite to paint. The colors, the dress, the attitude and expressions of time on their faces is a constant artistic challenge. Thank you for viewing my art. View susan’sgallery / View susan’szazzle /
The Corks were defeated. The last Bollinger miscreant, staging his final stand atop the hastily created prison complex, howled his defiance at the Eggs as they scorched and burned him with their egg-rays. It was for the best. With the final insane cork defeated the Kitchen could return to Egg rule once more. Peace at last… But future in the Kitchen was never certain.
This usually demure, gorgeous little female Cardinal had just been sitting in a tree with her ‘husband’, when he suddenly became cranky and squawked and lunged at her. I saw the whole thing, and merely as a bystander, I can tell you that she did nothing to raise his ire. Moments later, as if in an act of misdirected irritation with her man, she defiantly crapped on the wing of the statue bird that is attached to the birdbath at the Rooftop Cafe. Immediately after she does this, she seems to be looking at her victim as if to say, ‘Sorry, that was meant for my husband…he’s being a bit of a turd himself, today’.... The white water walk at Niagara Falls allows you to get close to the raging waters that tumble over Niagara Falls – albeit downstream of the falls themselves. Dotted within this raging landscape are rocks holding fast against the powerful eroding waters that sweep by them. Featured in The Beauty of Nature (Nothing Man-Made).
“A thing of beauty is a joy forever: / It’s loveliness increases; it will never / Pass into nothingness…. / An endless fountain of immortal drink, / Pouring unto us from heaven’s brink.” / JOHN KEATS This painting of Jacarandas lining the road along the wine farms in South Africa has been so named because of the call to rid the country of these beautiful trees. They remain part of the South African scenery and are deeply embedded in the peoples’ psyche. I used A4 sized Canson paper, with Schmincke, Sennelier and Unison pastels. Sold, framed to an individual in South Africa who saw it on Art Wanted.com and who approached me.
