Feeling pretty down-trodden when I did this piece. I wanted to create something to tell certain people in my life “Dont mess with me – or I’ll mess with you!”

LAS INDIGENISTAS: Digitization [2007]. I AM NOT ADVOCATING NOR AM I CONDONING SENSELESS VIOLENCE HERE. What I do advocate is armed struggle in self-defense. Like Ward Churchill has written in “On the Justice of Roosting Chickens: Some People Push Back,” in fact ALOT of people would push back in the form of political armed struggle. And I support Indigenist revolutionary armed struggle.

Get it, like defense, because it’s locked… and it’s a fence? Anyway, this was taken near the place where the last five images I submitted and the next few I’ll be submitting was taken.

Captured at Titchwell Marsh, Nr Norfolk England UK. The bloody-nosed beetle (Timarcha tenebricosa) is a large flightless leaf beetle. It gets its common name from a defensive behaviour of exuding a foul-tasting bright red fluid from its mouth, and is also called blood spewer or blood spewing beetle. Average specimens are quite squat being about 2 cm (3/4 inch) long, and about half that wide. They are black to bluish or purplish black in colour. The beetle can be found in southern and central Europe, and is common in Britain and Ireland.

This photo was taken from the the bottom of Gibbet Hill Lookout on Signal Hill, next to the Visitor Interpretation Centre. During the war this cannon, among others, was one of the defenses for the St. John’s harbor in Newfoundland. This spot offers an amazing view of the Narrows, Fort Amherst and the Southside of the harbour, and is part of a National Historic Site in Canada. / With access to a variety of hiking trails, and located near Cabot Tower and the Johnson Geocenter is it a lovely spot to visit while touring St. John’s. Also taken using Colin Tobin’s camera, a canon xti. Thanks Colin! / Some small adjustments were made in lightroom 2. I adjusted the color of the sky somewhat, and I used the program Gimp to remove a jet stream that was taking away from the clouds and sky.

This was one of my first self-portraits when I started messing around with photography for myself instead of just letting my brilliant husband (James Leader) capture all the images. I think this one, more than any other, demontrates the barely contained madness within me. And, it is in my fav medium of black and white, further accentuating the dark, moodiness of the both defensive and aggressive pose. /
