Taken in the last days of 2008. B/W film, as is. I saw more than ten “peasant workers” outside a subway station. Their luggages were put on the ground. They said they worked for months for an employer but the employer didn’t pay them, so they had no money to go back to their homes in countryside. I gave them some phone numbers to seek legal aid. But I didn’t have anything to write with. An old man among them found a blunt pencil in his luggage and began to sharpen it with a knife. Then he wrote down the numbers carefully on the back of an used bus ticket. Hope the issue could be easily settled. Every year before the New Year there are a lot of disputes like that. These peasant workers have little information about how things are done in the cities, for examples, finding jobs, hiring, contract. They have little training and no legal knowledge. The employers usually take this advantage and don’t sign any contract with them. Bound by tradition of uniting with family during Spring Festival, most of peasant workers go back to their villages before New Year and come back to cities after the festival. This year the economy is slower, and the cities can’t provide enough jobs for them. The local governments are now trying to find jobs for them in their counties to ease the pressure to cities. If they are lucky they can even get some training.

Suggestion of the day to RB Admin. If any other exhibitors disagree or agree with my idea, please comment here! I’d prefer the default when opening the ‘purchase cart’ to be on the cards (the least expensive item) rather than framed options. This might seem mad, but there are two reasons: 1. We prefer more sales, rather than none at all. Some people may baulk at the prices of these framed images – even though they are fair and reasonable!! So let them see the cards first. (Some people may prefer to purchase 50x$5 cards than purchase a $250 framed image.) / / 2. I had someone say, “Hang on, this says ‘From $3’ – but I don’t see anything under a $100.” They simply didn’t see the choices of frames, canvas, etc. They arrived at the first screen and figured that was all there was.
I had a chance to spend some time with upcoming Windows 7 OS. And because I am wallpaper maniac :-) the default wallpaper (this one – http://static.arstechnica.com/rcvm.jpg) was most interesting to me. I decided to fire up Photoshop and try to draw better wallpaper. I changed the fish (because my favorite is clown-fish), made wallpaper darker (I thought it was uncomfortably light), tweaked light source and reflections. I’m not sure if it turned out better, but here is the result! More sizes, download for mobile phone, send as e-card: / http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpaper/?windows7_alt_default_wallpaper Thanks!

At the core of RB group memberships is social networking. One of the things I’ve noted about how the recent changes here on RB have effected me, is that connecting up with members of a group – especially as a group host – is not as easy as it used to be. Group messages no longer go to BMail, so unless members are specifically looking for new posts or information in the groups they are members of, they will not be “contacted” the way they used to be with BMails. I discovered today under the “Filter Acitivity Feed” icon on the right column of “My Bubble” page that I can format what information is shown in this column as well as my Activity Feed column on the left of this page, based on my level of interest here on RB. For example, I can configure the default feed to show activity and group messages from groups I’m a member of, or work submitted by people on my watchlist. Until I did a bit of snooping, I was not aware that I had that kind of control! Maybe I missed the instructions from RB when they made all these new changes to the site layout, or maybe there wasn’t anything sent out at all??? Anyway, in case some of you were as oblivious as I about the control I have over what is shown and what is not shown on my bubble page, have a quick look at your formatting options and configure your Activity Feed section to your personal liking. Do the following to format your Activity Feed: #1. Click on the Filter Activity Feed icon on the right side of your “My Bubble” page. / #2. Click on the word Configure on the far right of the “Default Feed” drop down header that appears / #3. Check the boxes that interest you under the three headings of “My Stuff”, “My Watchlist” & “My Groups” for the activity feeds you would like to show up on the left side of your “My Bubble” page / #4. Click the red Perfect Save These button at the bottom of this page and then you are good to go. Hope this helps some of you stay better connected here on RB. Cheers, S.

I would like to thank you for the invitation to your group and accept with eagerness and gratitude. I hope I can bring some of the truths behind this group to the fore and get ‘in-the-face’ of Joe (or Josephine) Public. My outlooks and views on life are different to anyone else I know. I love nature. I love fantasy. I work alone, yet my ‘alter-world(ego)’ is populated by a myriad of elves, dwarves, orcs, ogres, dark elves, etc. I retreat to my other world whenever I can. I write from this other world. I draw from this other world. I create photos that are based around my other world. Some a parrallelled to the ‘normal world and others are not. I only hope to bring a smile, a grimace, or some deep thought to what I have to offer. / Andrew

.......of no one but my own dream to have published literary works that are enjoyed by folks of all ages (be it that they are literate of course) and walks of life; that others can relate and identify only because I have strove to reciprocate in kind. It is my desire and hope that the 50 + years that I have dwelt upon this world, that I give in return for the many who have given to me of their time, patience, instruction, wisdom, sorrow and humor. It is with expectant elation that I write upon this “script” to convey blessings at every turn. If not, what then, are we occupying this space at this time with this so short a span o’ years? This my legacy – that should my name live beyond this so short a span – that I have come and gone to press hope, peace of heart, endearment, inspiration, aspiration to live as Christ has taught us, firmly and gently into the hearts of my readers. / Zack Leon Slaughter / Thomas Josiah Chappelle

Weird, eh? I just took the default picture and let’s just say I did a few things to it. Thanks to my friend who gave me the great idea. Well, finally my profile is 100% complete and I don’t have to have an annoying little box reminding me, “Upload Your Portrait”, every single time I go into the account tab. Wahoo!
