I found a new location for photographing the sunset, I found it by accident last night, so tonight I decided to go back a bit earlier and have a browse around. I parked up about 8-00pm and walked over to the field that i had spotted. At the back of the field is a long line of trees and i decided they would enhance my sunset pics. I had about an hour to kill as sunset would be about 9-00pm. As I waited I saw something brown “fly” into the field, I got closer and searched for the pheasant that I thought it would be, suddenly a deer appeared in front of me and I thought it was going to jump over my head and away, but it saw me and turned around and rushed off in the opposite direction. Once my heart stopped pounding I cursed that I hadn’t time to get a pic of my very first encounter with a deer. I carried on waiting and to my amazement a few moments later the deer reappeared stood in front of me on the other side of the fence and stared at me, I slowly raised my camera and took a photo and with that the deer headed off again bounding across the field i did manage another photo but it’s a bit dark. Stare down / Running away / Wow that happened a couple of hours ago and I am still gobsmacked and thrilled by the close call. I just had to come back home and share the magical moment with you all. I will be going back to hopefully meet again and get a better photo. I have put my photos on a journal as they are not good enough for my portfolio.

I joined RB last week and took my camera on a day trip to the waterfall walk at Ingleton in Yorkshire, I was shooting all day and was particularly happy with ‘Waterfall’ and ‘White water’. The following morning I was up early and picked my camera up to take on my morning walk, the batteries were flat, I checked my spares, these were flat as well. For once I thought it doesn’t matter, I have walked this particular route many times and will again in the future, I left the camera at home. I crossed the fallen tree pictured in ‘Autumnal Bridge’ and came face to face with a young Red Deer, we were both slightly startled as our eyes met, we were so close I could see the early morning dew on the hairs of its nose and where was my camera? Nestling exhausted in its case at home. It is a rare sight to see a wild deer in Rivington, I can count on one hand the number of fleeting glimpses so this was a unique experience. To be this close and not be able to capture the moment was disappointing, but I am now determined to return and take my camera with me next time.

Up at 4:30am. Left for work by 5:05. Not a bad day at work – though not the best. Boring few hours after work. 6:30pm went to church to practice a song with the choir for a funeral tomorrow for a family friend, Beth. She was only 55 years old. Mom and I usually sing with the choir for special occasions, and Beth was always there, so it was hard tonight, to sing without her. It wasn’t the same…I kept expecting to hear her strong alto voice, but it wasn’t there…I made it through most of the first verse, and that was it. Then everybody else lost it, too. I don’t know how we’re going to make it through at the funeral. 55 is too young. Especially for Beth. She was always so fun, energetic, caring, loving, understanding…vibrant. Yes. She was vibrant. And invigorating to be around – a breath of fresh air. I sure am going to miss her. On the other end of the spectrum, Kateri should be having her baby any time now!!! Oh yeah, on my way home from town after choir practice, I got hit by a deer. Dirty bastard ran into the side of my car, bounced off, and ran away. Yeah, there’s damage. It’s not pretty, and I’m pissed.

We’ve had a little set back with Timmy. He has been EXTREMELY ill the past week. Fever of 104.9, vommiting, etc.. Well – Today he was feeling SO much better…he tolerated a feeding-tube feed, fever of ONLY 99.4 all day…he was up and running around for the first time in a WHILE! So, I decided to give him some of the deer jerky we made him. HE LOVES THAT STUFF! Around 4 hours later, Timmy’s fever was back to 102. He was couging, sluggish, threw up two times, and was having trouble breathing! I couldn’t believe it. I put two-and-two together and realized that he hasn’t been sick at all! He is having a food reaction! The reason!? The Jerky! He can have deer – but NOT JERKY! He was SO UPSET! I guess it’s the way it’s cooked. Just like he can have applesauce, but not raw or just baked apples. I guess jerky isn’t cooked enough at a high enough temp! I was so scared! Still am. He is so sad and looks really bad. So pale.. This is WHY he can’t have food. Could you imagine his life if we never got this diagnosis? Always ill like this? Please pray for him. He’s having a REALLY rough night tonight. He was crying and really upset about his jerky! Said some things a little six yr old should not be saying. “Why did God Make me this way?” “I can’t live like this anymore!”.. Please say a prayer for us! I need it too..It’s so hard to be strong! I needed to vent at 1:40am! It’s going to be an all nighter again! Thanks for listening.

a local news station did a story about my son Timmy! You see Timothy has a disease that keeps him from eating food. So, after years of testing…adding and removing food…we have found the Venison is the only meat he can eat! My dilema? WHERE and HOW am I supposed to get deer for my son?! So, I called our local station and asked for their help! Well, they helped alright! Not only did we get tons of calls from the story airing here – BUT, FoxNews.com picked up the story and posted it…and BAM! People from all over the country – Nebraska, New York, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Arizona, Mississippi, and more than I can’t remember! So – now, Timmy will NEVER want for deer! EVER! We are set for life! It was an amazing experience, and has restored my faith in Humanity! The only negative thing we experienced was a website for vegetarians … Most were understanding…But, others were just down right mean! I went on that msg board to educate them, and let them know WHY! It was a good opportunity to educate people about his disease! Anyway – I just wanted to share this very positive thing that has happened to us recently! It has been quite a ride! Gotta love it when people pull together…and for one little boy! WOW! Really filled my heart! :) / stacey

Deerhunter, Cryptograms, 2007 Cryptograms is introduced by a spacey three minute piece that tugs the listener from a mellow trance into another worldly atmosphere. A typical instrumental bit at the beginning of an album, but with an atypical lack of direction—unsure of whether the record will take on an indie, rock, or electronic vibe. The rest of the album is nearly as odd as the band itself, including members: Josh Fauver (bass), Colin Mee (guitar), Moses Archuleta (drums + keyboards), and Bradford Cox (vocals + guitar). After recently touring with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs the foursome received alienating reviews—nevertheless many of the bullying journalists admitted to purchasing Cryptograms. Lead singer and guitarist Bradford Cox is constantly aced by reporters for his “obsessively” thin frame—a characteristic of Marfan Syndrome, which Cox is less than blessed to have. To top it all off, while recording Cryptograms, their original bassist, Justin Bosworth, died in a tragic skateboarding dilemma. The first half of the album strays back and forth between pulsating and robotic vocals, “sounds of the rainforest,” and a wish-wash of melodies fashioned with noisy guitars and other melodramatic effects. Some of the tracks struggle to find an appropriate melody and this confusion is replaced by experimental-type foofaraw. These first few songs do not seem as if they would be fun to play, nor are they particularly inspirational. Track eight, “Spring Hall Convert;” however, offers a more enlightening approach to their strange blend of sounds—a pleasing combination of soothing vocals, tone, and yes, melody—at least for the first minute or so. From here on the songs are more and more appreciable—functioning primarily on a reconstruction of vocals and reformatting of musical structure. An example of this is track ten, “Hazel St,” where the drums have enough room to develop a decent pace and melody and the guitars, which give off a borderline shoegaze edge, are represented just enough to drift in harmony with the other instruments. The last half of Cryptograms is hopeful of Deerhunter’s future—with less experimental-instrumental tracks that are used as transitions between songs rather than complete tracks themselves, increased use of vocals (with preferably more insightful lyrics), and more emphasis on developing their skills as musicians, rather than messing around with what they already know. Don’t get me wrong—if Deerhunter and their debut, Cryptograms, was not worth listening to, then I would have never written a review for it. Deerhunter is simply a gem that needs polishing. www.notownsound.net www.myspace.com/deerhunter Review: Karoline Anderson
