  • There are people in my life who presence are so very precious to me. They give me hope and feed me joy. And there are some who when I need it ... they hold my hand in silence and ease my pain. These are the gifts that they give to me. This is for all of you who have brought me hope by listening to me and encouraging me. This is for all of you who have fed me joy by sharing your own wonders with me and laughed with me and fed me joy by allowing me to be silly. And finally … this is for the ones who held my hand, symbolically and spiritually. You are a GIFT to me.

  • I was on a long walk today and shot a variety of pictures, but nothing was more wonderful than when I came upon a nice wooded area, and suddenly appeared these two lovely deer coming up from a ravine just below the snow line. I was stunned but managed to get a shot or two off before they turned and ran off!! ;-) Pure luck…

  • Winter is long and can be hard on the mule deer in the valley of Jackson Hole. Fortunately some of the valley uplands are off limits to skiing and winter hiking to give the deer a place to winter without being disturbed. As the winter winds down, and some grasses start to show through on south facing slopes, the deer come to that exposed forage. This doe was watching the rest of her small herd closely, and looked as if she was debating on the grass she had found versus keeping up with them. Canon 40D, handheld, f 13, 1/500, focal length 400mm, southern Gros Ventre West butte. Featured in Americas ~ Rural, Urban, Wild, Free group, August 2009 – Thanks so much!

  • Snow storms in the high plateau areas of southern Idaho can turn into white-out blizzards. The direction of sound beyond the wind cannot be pinpointed. In Storm Deer, I tried to capture the feeling moments before the white-out hits, when the best strategy is to find cover and wait it out. The original painting is done in water mixable oils on12’‘x24’’ hardboard.

This artwork was featured in Dimensions, Imaginative Realism, Photo Manipulators, and Fantasy Fine Art Composites This image has come to mean a lot to me since I first posted it. When I was making it, I was simply merging a bunch of elements that I really enjoy – nature, juxtaposing seasons, a captivating background, interesting model poses, realistic water, and using a monochromatic blue colour scheme. But I guess subconsciously, I was creating an outward projection of how I feel about a very passionate issue with which I am currently faced… Due to resolution issues, the deer had to be photo-painted into the image. Water effect created using a displacement map in PS.
