Every year whitetails shed their antlers and grow a new set that year. Here is a buck captured right after shedding an antler in the fresh snow.
This little deer investigates a leftover Halloween pumpkin on our neighbor’s porch….for the heartwarming sight of this and all the other wondrous gifts of nature, I am truly thankful. Estes Park, Colorado.

The baby Nyala gave me one last before going to mom. / These are beautiful gentle creatures, with sweet gentle natures. Hunting of deer should be banned completely. We have so little natural wildlife left and we should protect it with all our might, so that generations to come may oneday hold out their hand and experience the beauty of a baby Nyala approaching with innocence and love. It is upsetting that such beautiful creatures are still being hunted by egotistical people and for what purpose, when the weapons they have cannot possibly make them brave hunters, braggarts maybe. I want our children and grandchildren to know the beauty of nature, all of it.

A couple of days ago, on my morning walk at the lake, I saw this beautiful little doe come down to the water’s edge for a drink. I held Maggie on short leash and told her in a soft voice to be still and quiet, and we just stood there watching. When the deer had finished drinking, she turned to look into my eyes, at first wondering about this 4-legged at my side, but then relaxing as I spoke to her gently, telling her no harm would come to her….it was a moment of true heart connection….I felt her release her fear and embrace trust….it was a beautiful thing….. /

In among Pine trees, lush green grasses and colorful wild flowers, wanders a Mule Deer Buck as the warm morning sun rays add vitality to all living things within the forest. Mule deer have a multi-part stomach, which aids in the digestion of the plant matter they consume. Mule deer graze on fresh green leaves, twigs, grasses, herbs, weeds, blackberries, raspberries, vines, grapes, mistletoe, mushrooms, ferns, and cactus fruit. The Mule Deer on average, stand 101 to 106 cms(40 to 42 in) at the shoulders and is 203 cms( 80 in) or so from nose to tail. An adult buck will weigh from 68-136 kgs (150 to 300 lbs) on the hoof, with does averaging 56.6 to 79 kgs (125 to 175 lbs). The occasional trophy-sized mule deer buck may weigh in around 226.7 kgs (500 lbs). “PHOTO INFORMATION” Taken on July 20/09 at 6:54am in Yellowstone National Park, US. / Taken in Adobe RGB, Raw and aperture priority. / Camera; Canon 40D / Lens; Canon EF 100-400 L IS USM Lens. / Manfrotto tripod, including Joystick head. / Taken at 1/250’s at f/8, – 1/2 EV, 235 mm, man col bal 6400 kelvin, iso 800. / Lightroom- slight histogram adjustment.
