I crossed paths with this handsome young buck in velvet while hiking deep in the woods of Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, USA. He seemed to be such a gentle creature, enjoying the new leaves of spring. He allowed me to photograph him for quite a while, as long as I stood very still. He always kept one eye on me as he enjoyed the tender vegetation. Other works in the Cades Cove Collection: Check out these other great animal cards: (Simply Click on the thumbnail to purchase!)
Taken at Roxborough State Park, just as the snow was letting up and the skies started to open.

This painting was inspired by a meadow near our home when we lived in Alpine County California in 1980. I love getting up at sunrise for walks in the early morning sunlight with its long shadows across the meadow grass. At this time of day the fragrant forest is bathed in a bright warm glow with cool crisp shadows and dew drips from the blades of grass. It is so easy to fall in love with nature then.
