  • Face In The Sand
    by Twisted

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Taken just off the Middle Eye the middle Hilbre Island in The Dee Estuary on the Wirral. The Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve is contained within the Dee Estuary on the north west coast of England. The Dee Estuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Protection Area, a Ramsar Site which is a Wetland of International Importance. The islands consist of three tidal islands, Little Eye, Middle Eye and Hilbre Island. The sunset on this febuary evening turned the landscape into something from another planet. The rocks in the sand staring back at me as I watched the sun cross the horizon.

  • Heart Of The Storm II
    by Peter Hill

    US$8.31–US$190.00

Heart Of The Storm II What attracted my eye when taking this shot were the storm clouds, and the early morning sun struggling to overcome them, to the right of frame. The light streaming through the grey and the curling wisps was what I wanted to feature. The small rockpool, one of many on the rock platform, was positioned perfectly below the clouds to provide the “foreground interest”, as they say, allowing me to stay where I was with a rather large tripod and waves crashing to my right. The camera was up high so I could also get the timelapse effect happening on the background water which, if you can imagine, was a constant place of waves breaking over the rocks. But not too high as to lose the reflection of the sunlight and the clouds in the water in the pool in front of me. As this spot was away from the overflow of the waves, the water in the pool was still, so I was able to obtain a crisp foreground. I didn’t notice the rockpool was heart-shaped until I saw it on the big screen. And previous shots with the sun in frame did not work out even with the Black Glass, hence the lens is pointed to leave the sun out just to the right but still get the rays. Unfortunately the top of the image is cropped, so some of the cloud is lost and the effect is therefore diminished, and the eye looks elsewhere to focus. I had to crop it as there is a rather large (relatively) twig or some such in the frame in the sky and I keep forgetting to flush it out of the camera before I go on a shoot. It is black enough and ziggy enough to be a long problem to resolve in PS or similar and Aperture (Apple) and Digital Photo Professional (Canon utility that came with my camera) – my current resources – can’t do it. Hence the crop. The original image was shot in Monochrome. I decided to uploaded a colour version after a wonderful comment by DragonFlyer Tripod-mounted Canon EOS 5D Mark II / Canon Ef 24-70mm f2.8L USM Zoom Lens with Hoya HMC ND x400 Filter / Hand-held Lee 0.3 Soft Grad ND Filter / Focal length: 24mm / ISO: 50 / Aperture: f16 / Speed: 68 seconds / Image: Single RAW file, converted to Landscape / Location: Dee Why, Sydney, May 2009 Best viewed large
