  • A patient bathroom at a village style asylum built in 1904 basks in the afternoon glow. I wonder how many patients bathed in this tub, looking out the window dreaming of freedom. Some folks spent nearly their entire lives in institutions like this. 100+ views! Thanks everyone!

  • Two chairs cough their insides across a day room at Hurricane Psychiatric Center in New York. Once a resting place for weary souls, these chairs are now themselves are weary and worn. Quietly. / Patiently. Gutted and nearly lifeless, they await another adventurous traveler to stop, relax and tarry a while; taking a deep breath and the time to absorb the history, the energy and feel the story they are so eager to share. • “The Wicked ‘Wich” – State Hospital for the Insane A solitary chair gathers the warm sunlight of an autumn afternoon in a famous sprawling New England asylum. It is frames like these that make hiding from state police in an attic for two and a half hours worthwhile. For more see Polarity Photo Thanks for the 150+ views. Feel free to comment.

  • A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities – this is a little nook in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. HDR image processed in Photomatix from a single jpeg (with 3 exposures 1/3) then finished in CS3. I love this old basin (not the first old washbasin to pop up in my portfolio!!!) in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. • HDR image of a makeshift workshop located with the old Cellulose Factory, (old paper mill), Millicent South Australia. Great lighting and huge open factory with roof height windows capturing that late afternoon sun. Canon 400D 18-55 lens Three shot HDR adapted in Photomatix. The old datsun in for more repairs than its probably worth.

  • Sorry for those people who have seen this before or made comment, I had trouble with it not showing in watchlists or groups so have re-loaded it. Many thanks to those who commented in the journal forum on the shot. Image from the recent shoot at the Cellulose Factory, (Old paper mill) between Snuggery and Millicent in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. The mill has not operated for many years but areas are being done up slowly by the new owners for a number of businesses. On a bit of a location scout with Biggzie before the upcoming regional visit by Tony Ryan from melbourne with his workshops. Seems no-ones turned the lights back on for many a year… Shot with a Canon 400D 15-55 lens. Processed in Photoshop CS3. External speedlight used for this shot.

  • Found this wonderful old unoccupied building at Rendelsham, (between Millicent and Beachport) in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. Bright bold peeling red paint on the front door, offset by small flute corrugated iron walls. Surrounded by old rusted out cars, tins and a range of heritage items this place stands as a wonderful reminder of times past. Canon 400D 18-55 lens.

  • Three shot HDR taken late this afternoon inside the old Cellulose Paper Mill between Millicent and Mt Gambier in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. The Mill is slowly being renovated section by section by the new owners and becoming home to a range of industries. This section is still untouched and is as it was when the macinery was taken away. Canon 400D – 18-55 HDR processed in Photomatix.

  • An old hospital. Canon 30D

  • ... whatever a krunk is! Taken in an alleyway in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, right beside Exit, Get down and dirty and Blitz Image taken with 2MP Motorazr V9 mobile phone. Post-processed in Photoshop CS4. / Group Feature: ‘Imperfectly’ – August 2009

  • Old door & stairs. Canon 30D

  • Seems when they closed down the old Cellulose cardboard factory at Snuggery, near Millicent South Australia, they just forgot to ‘take a seat’..... Shot recently during a model shoot at the site with Heather and Jacq, late afternoon light filtering into the ruined upstairs area of the factory. Canon 400D – 17-85 lens.

  • canon 30 D. I chimped & immediately thought of that kenny rogers song , the gambler … the bit about knowing when to run.

  • Warning….t-shirt is FRESH: Old Schooool The original sketch /

  • Night night / Blow out the candle / Inside a blazing building / Upon a sacred mission / All the lights that twinkle / All the pens that sign / All the wishes that sink / Making up our mind Up the wooden stairs / Up into my heart / I know that you know / This is all that matters / I feel our two young deaths so close now / Smiling soft and shining / The blade is sharp and fine / It could just slit us open And you know / this is nothing special / With one slip / And we could lose ourselves forever / One time for all times / And you are / The only thing that shines / The only thing that shines Nowhere near / Wade in a lake of silence / Only say that word and I will / Pour myself like wine / This is as much as I know / This is all they told me / The wicked shapes and lines / Taking us somewhere And you know / This is nothing special / With one slip / We could lose ourselves forever / One time for all times / And you are / The only thing that shines / The only thing that shines / The only thing that shines Shriekback / Listen here
