This is a raw shot from an extremely impromptu shoot today with my beautiful model Jessica Tremp / I refuse to edit or manipulate for ethical reasons- I love it for example :) This also happens to be my favourite of all my work, by a long shot. And yet I still don’t have a copy to call my own. I’ll have to get around to that! Art Direction & Photography: Jo O’Brien / Model: Jessica Tremp

Click on the images below for a more detailed close-up / / “Finches On Parade” is about the communal abstract chatter that one encounters when in amongst a crowd of like-minded personalities. / I have chosen not to emphasize the precise detail of each bird but rather their general shape as they caper around, to give the impression of constant movement. I was extremely bored today and I wanted to do something creative so I found the bubbles and started blowing out in the backyard. It was a little windy today so it was a stupid idea but I couldn’t stop trying, I just wanted ONE ! bubble with some sort of reflection before it popped. It was a mess, dripping bubbles everywhere and dropping my camera around my wrist a hundred times and then POP…..too late ! but finally I got one I really liked ….it reminds me of a garden globe.

I’ve always loved looking at decorative paintings. I never thought I’d paint one. I had been toying with the idea of mixing an abstract background with a semi-realist subject, and Orchid-ish was the result. This is my interpretation of a painting called Arrangement II by Mari Giddings, an artist who I greatly admire. I used oil on canvas and really took my time painting this one. Layer after layer went on, and I almost abandoned the whole idea as the abstract background began to come to life on its own. Fortunately, the original vision of the vase and orchid never left me, and I was able to complete it as planned.

Taken at Mackay, Queensland. Thank you to Redbubble for featuring Storm on the Rise on their homepage in April, 2008 and for publishing it in their book Gaia – The Living Planet. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- The storms may come and limbs may break; / Yet others bend beneath the weight— / Of heavy rain and windy breeze… / A storm can mark the strongest trees. Life sometimes deals with us this way; / In unseen trials we meet each day. / It’s not how much our bodies break / Or how much they may bend; / It’s our outlook in our own life / That helps our spirits mend. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——-
