Tomorrow is the day. Down come the Christmas decorations. The beautiful tree sitting in the corner has been making me smile for a month. Its lights still reflect the sparkly lights. The tree is starting to lean forward. I think it is because the cat has been jumping up playing with the bulbs. She even knocked some of the lower bulbs off. I picked them up and put them on the TV stand. I took the outside lights down today. I will miss turning them on. I will miss having the lights shine into the windows after the sun sets. They are packed away and the extension cord is in the container with them. The room will seem empty. The decorations will be in the plastic bins. So now the photographs I have taken for the last month and half will be printed and on the walls they go. I will be having fun. That camera sure is fun. Way to go!

Hello everyone. I have just registered a few minutes ago, and i couldn’t wait til i have my artwork ready for uploading (still have to check the right file size, etc). I feel blessed to have stumbled upon this community. As a self-taught artist, and as a stay-at-home mom, i find it difficult to have to handle all the other things that goes with marketing my work. What pleases me most is that Dan didn’t know a thing about Ikebana prior to seeing my work. He is a very knowledgeable art critic and that is exactly how he approached my work. It’s been five days since I started to get ill. My husband swears that I have the swine flu. As we live in a university community where it’s prevalent, he could be correct. The up side of this misery is that I’m feeling well enough to get caught up on some computer work that I’ve been putting off. Here is the link to our house in Santa Fe. It’s on the market as of last week. We hate to sell, but it’s too much to take care of long distance. It’s also too expensive to maintain from 1500 miles away. It has a photography studio with a working darkroom. It was an addition to the original studio and was planned by a professional photographer. The original studio had a sound studio and a room that was used as a home wood shop. I have added a new, account to RB which is under the user name “MagicalDecor” / This was done as a way to manage the content of the work I will be adding & doing. My “DravenStudios” account will continue to display SP work and artistic nudity while, “MagicalDecor” well, obviously, be for more decorative pieces without nudity. This is so, when a viewer looks at a flower work or cute, cat work they will not come across what may not suit them. My friend, James Birbeck did this to help manage his range of works and I just feel that this is the best solution. I have done a tremendous, amount of SP work but I do have other interests. So, a part of this move is because I am wanting to work further into imaginative, works that do not involve me or models. If it does, happen to, involve me or a model it probably will not show faces. It will be more exploring of my usage of Corel Painter Essentials, working with shooting with older cameras and a different, line of creative skills. Note: Yes, I will continue with adding to “DravenStudios” and developing pieces into “MagicalDecor” so, you will be getting a wider, range of works.

I will be adding work to this account & to my other account over the coming weeks. I did not make the move with work already, setup for this account so, it maybe a slow process. Please, bare with me on this. However, that is my goal to shoot two per week and divide between the accounts. This account will be free of artistic nudity, as I think, most of you know by now. It will still contain some SP work & models but most likely, not show the face. Also, it will be for more of my work in photo manipulations, use of multiple creative techniques, ( using scanners, shooting through view finders, using type, macro), some still life and pets. So, a lot of this will be learning processes for me. I feel good in the SP work but these are other things that I strive to learn as well. I appreciate each of your support in following me on this as well and I do encourage your input on the pieces I add. I want the input to help me learn so, constructive critics well be welcomed. Thank you again for the support, friendship, inspiration each one of you has shown me on RB! Canadian surgeon and soldier, John McCrae wrote the poem In Flanders Fields on May 3, 1915, after witnessing the death of his friend, Lt. Alexis Helmer. The opening line of the poem vividly describes the image of the poppies blowing in the wind amongst the many crosses that mark the resting places of fallen soldiers. In 1915 US professor Moina Michael inspired by the poem published a poem of her own in response, called We Shall Keep the Faith. In tribute to the opening lines of McCrae’s poem - “In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses row on row,” - Michael vowed to always wear a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance for those who served in the war.Thus the plant became a symbol for the dead World War I soldiers. In many Commonwealth countries, artificial, paper or plastic versions of this poppy are worn to commemorate the sacrifice of veterans and civilians in World War I and other wars, during the weeks preceding Remembrance Day on November 11. In the United States, it is common practice to wear “Buddy Poppies” (artificial, paper or plastic versions sold by the Veterans of Foreign War) during the weeks preceding Memorial Day, the last Monday in May to commemorate the sacrifice of veterans in the various wars; whereas Veterans Day on November 11 is used to honor “living” veterans. It has been adopted as a symbol by The Royal British Legion in their Poppy Appeal. In Canada, poppies are distributed by the Royal Canadian Legion and the Anavets organization each fall prior to Remembrance Day. The design of the Canadian poppy consists of petals made of red plastic with a felt lining and black centre held on by a pin. In 1980, the Royal Canadian Legion formed a committee to decide the future of the poppy and it was decided that the centre should be changed to green to represent the green fields of France. This proved unpopular with the Legion membership and the design was changed back in 1986. Unfortunately a large quantity of green felt had already been purchased and it was decided to keep producing the green centres until the supply of felt was exhausted. It took until 2002 for the green felt to run out and the traditional black centres reappeared. Those who were unaware or had forgotten that black centres had been used in the design of the poppy from its introduction in 1921 until 1980 found the change somewhat controversial. In New Zealand and Australia, plastic poppies are widely distributed by the Returned Services Association leading up to ANZAC day (April 25). So, my latest audio slide show of houses on the New Bedford Preservation Society’s house tour next weekend is online now and I’m pretty pleased with it. I think I’m getting more creative – for both houses I got up on step stools, and for the tree exhibit (I’ll have a slide show up on that next week), I actually laid on the floor a few times. But I made some really amateurish mistakes, like forgetting the thingimajiggy that attaches camera to tripod, and I dropped the Big Lens in a fireplace – not burning, thankfully, but still, it’s pretty f—-ed up… Sigh!!
