views: 3424 / favs: 52 Completed 2004 age 18 I was inspired by the Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju, who tends to limit his colors in his paintings. Sometimes he paints an image where the background is the complimentary colors of the subject. His style is simple but at the same time intense, where the foreground stands out from the complimentary background. Medium: Watercolors This is a painting done in my sketchbook. The paper isn’t watercolor paper, but at least more durable than regular printing paper. When I first came to Redbubble, I only had a couple pieces to post. I always reduced the size of my photos before editing them(making them too small for here), just didn’t have a reason to keep them full size until Redbubble. Anyways, I threw this pic up, just so I had more than 2 posted. I didn’t really even like it. The original shot’s exposure was all kinds of screwed up. I edited so much, I was just plain sick of it. But like I said, it was a filler pic. I sooo did not expect the amount of attention it received, much less that it sold. I’ve actually grown to really like it too. So I thought I’d share this, and the original shot with everyone. So here it is: This piece was my very first sold piece. It was also chosen for the Featured Art Page (before group featuring), featured in A Photographer’s Craft group, and was a finalist in the May US Scenic Photo Contest. Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) with a dark twist. This was the first of my Dark Dreams flower series, most of which I have pulled from redbubble. It was also one of my first images here. Obviously it was photoshoped. I get a lot of questions about why there are scratches on it, it was to give it an old aged look. The texture would make it a great canidate for a canvas print… hint hint ;) This is the original: / I believe this is the largest image in my portfolio, and that is because it was taken with my old 35 mm SLR, then scanned in (I have a really good scanner that scans really big) If you are seeing this image in a group for the first time, that is because I just realized it wasn’t in any groups! I must have cleared it out to make room for newer stuff. This peice was my very first one chosen on the Featured Art page and was featured in Ebony and Ivory group. views: 1942 / favs: 54 My origami calendar I used tweezers to create the last few folds. The paper I folded with was about 15×15mm big. Basically I present the creator and the creation where the crane is framed by my fingers forming a circle. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny little specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. / / For a better idea of scale: / / / I did not make this crane and take the picture with the description in my mind; but created it by instinct. It wasn’t easy drawing out my words initially. However many viewers have left very inspiring comments about my work, and for that I am grateful. The first impressionists took advantage of the introduction of premixed paints in tubes where paint is laid on an area of the surface very thickly, usually thickly enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. / Characteristics of impressionist paintings include visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities effecting colour, the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception, and unusual visual angles. / Short, thick strokes of paint are used to quickly capture the essence of the subject, rather than its details. The paint is often applied impasto. / Colours are applied side-by-side with as little mixing as possible, creating a vibrant surface. The optical mixing of colours occurs in the eye of the viewer. / My form of impressionism starts with digital photography and I then develop this into my own art form and exploit the aspects of the digital painting medium embracing and showing the painterly aspect, rather than trying to hide the act of creation. My work is hand painted digital painting and is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. / I create the painting, directly on my PC, by using a Wacom tablet, a stylus pen and ArtRage painting software. The Wacom tablet can be compared to a canvas or watercolor paper surface. The stylus pen is my paintbrush.

Perhaps the older girl is the little one’s mother or sister, perhaps she is sensei passing down instructions on how to tend the flowers. The little one wears a floral kimono in keeping with the theme. A pencil drawing on paper coloured digitally.

Summer Breeze a beautiful poem by the same title by a dear friend of mine Anne Van Alkemade / Inspired by the song Summer Breeze / by Seals and Croft Also inspired by myself and my experience of having bugs and insects come to try and take up residence in my ears… scrabbling around in there, getting all comfy…while I’m going crazy…click beetles, houseflies and spiders so far have all tried this… lol This is a girl who has an affinity with nature, and as the summer breezes begin to blow here in Australia…....the animals are drawn to live in her hair thinking that it must be branches of a tree… yes, my hair’s that dry… :) I thought it a fitting one for summer, hope you like her… Pencil drawing took me about 3 hours / Digital colouring – 10 hours / Total time 13 hours
