I used to go to a disco in this street many moons ago. I wondered whether it was through that doorway and downstairs to the basement. I remember seeing Stevie Wright’s band play there. Maybe someone could enlighten me on where it was. The street has changed so much over the years but was always interesting. I remember a great cake shop with Viennese style cakes and a place that I could buy vegetarian food-that was in the late sixties-for those who remember. ha ha ha! Later CAE art classes with Mirka Mora when I took my son to ‘cause he didn’t want to go to school that day. I’m sure he learned more there that day than he would have at school. My mother and grandmother (and I suppose great-grandmother) always had a love of the little lanes and streets of Melbourne and we would always walk up Degraves street and cross Flinders Lane meander through Block Arcade on our way to the ‘must see’ Royal Arcade to look at Gog and Magog with the clock. Then off the gallery that used to be housed along with the museum in the State Library of Victoria building. Yesterday to continue that tradition I took my grandaughter through these streets and then we went to the galleries at Fed Square and then St Kilda road. At 3 and a half – she loved those places as I’ve no doubt that Melbourne is singing in her blood. The family has been here since 1856! Looks like we are here to stay!!!

  • ...the tenth sign of the Zodiac…Your element: Earth / Your ruling planets: Saturn / Symbol: The Goat / Your stone: Garnet / Life Pursuit: To be proud of their achievements / Vibration: Poweful resilient energy / Capricorn Secret Desire: to be admired by their family and friends and the world at large… / The Sun is in Capricorn between about 22nd December and 19th January. / Like the mountain goat represented in the symbol of your sign, if your Sun is in Capricorn you aspire to the heights. But you are going to get there by steady perseverance, not by leaps of intuition, nor with a burst of enthusiasm. You won’t take risks, but will build your world carefully, step by step, on your own if necessary, but with a determination and stamina that will lead others to depend on you with good reason, for you will always look after your own. / With Capricorn Rising, you’ll greet the morning with a sense of duty and responsibility. You won’t even think about whether you like it or not, you will just go out and get on with the chores of the day. You might well stay on late at work and finish a task rather than go down to the pub, but after work is done you will like nothing better than to go home to those who love you, for your hard exterior hides a deeply feeling soul. ......
