I found this old piano in an abandoned church. It’s a haunting echo of music played, songs sung, and dances danced.
-
This Thornseat Lodge, a derelict house in Derbyshire, originally a Gamekeepers house, then in 1934 was turned into an orphange and was stopped being used in the late 80’s, now it is just falling apart, such a waste

Again the old General Hospital… / / It was built in 1897 and was home to Newfoundlands first operating room. The hospital has been closed and condemed for many many years now. Rumor has it that many dark and hideous things were done behind its doors, things that are better left forgotten… Only memories are left now that can haunt its dark and terrifying hallways. / / Cinderellas wicked step sisters would be in their glory having her scrub these floors. /

Decayed old rusty tractor covered in dew.

I found the remains of this old truck in the mountains just north of the City of Orange, California. It had become a part of its surroundings and was now consigned to the few parts that remained on its return to the dust. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. Abandoned couch in Northcote.

The exterior of this old stately home is really quite grand, and i think made by the same architect as the Way to school building due to the presence of many similar features such as the plaque space above the door etc.

“A mind, like a home, is furnished by its owner, so if one’s life is cold and bare he can blame none but himself.” Louis L’Amour (1908 – 1988) If you would like to purchase any of my art in a larger format, please contact me. Other works by Earthairfire:

An old abandoned Farm house in Yorkshire, a place called Crow edge, not much left now, The person i went with today told me she used to play in here when she was a child, it was empty then!! such a shame, this really was a beautiful house, more pics to follow soon of the outside.

This door detail was photographed in Avanos, a small town in the Cappadocia region of central Turkey. The bright colors and old wood of houses and doors in these small towns are often beautiful and always intriguing. The splintered wood, tooled brass lock and handle, and encroaching shadow give this piece a sense of mystery for me.

The Patio doors on the Old Hall, boarded over with wood and metal sheeting

Life continues to ramble along the nooks and crannies of an old settlers home.
-

Nature is well into the process of reclaiming this old house near Gonzales, TX

The remains of a 1939 Chevrolet or GMC (I believe) logging truck. The bed was probably removed to be used on another truck. The image has been processed to enhance the lighting and colors on this abandoned old vehicle, projecting a nostalgic aura of times gone by. This would be a wonderful and beautiful conversation piece for any den.

An old Carlight Caribbean caravan, unused for 20 years, the owner is thinking of restoring it to its former glory…. i wish them luck! /

The highways were packed on this trip home due to holidays. So, I decided to try something different and drove the 100+ miles from my home north of Atlanta to my folks house south of Macon using surface roads. No interstate expressways. The Atlanta part was interesting. It’s not like old highways were straight, but I’m pretty sure the city of Atlanta and the interstates that runs straight through downtown had broken it up even worse. It was a maze of poorly marked streets. It began to get dark by the time I got out of the city proper, but I took “0ld 341” just because I wanted to see what Culloden looked like since it was apparently named for the Scottish battlefield I had visited months before. In the twilight, I managed to take a long exposure of this lovely old gas station decaying along the side of a forgotten highway. More photos of Rural America

Acrylic and mixed media on stretched canvas. Created as part of a body of work for my degree show, June 2007. The title of my degree show work was “Transient Spaces” referring to derelict spaces and buildings, abandoned, forgotten and left to the elements. Using photography as a primary source of reference I attempt to capture the tragic beauty that I find in the abandoned and neglected. I find the beauty in decay is that it reminds of our own mortality. My aim was to produce paintings and photographic images that bear witness to a human presence; a representation of the human condition. I sold this painting the day after preview night.
