  • This is our winning inline hockey team from the end of the 2006 season. The grand final was played at the new Dandenong rink. You can see the large Team trophy in front and our goalie is also holding his own Goalie award. The team’s game coach is Tim Foulds-Smith (in the black T-shirt), who is also the captain of the Senior A grade team. About half of the team also represent Victoria at national competitions, while the other half are up-and-coming players who are a good chance to represent us in the near future.

  • Teatro Merida – just off the central plaza in Merida, Mexico, the capitol of the Yucatan state of Mexico. / I love these old art deco theaters and the neon lights, but so many in America are husks of their former selves. This one appeared to be owned by the state.

  • I went down to the Gold Coast Seaway a bit after 12pm…it was an awesome sight. / SE Qld/NE NSW Gales and Rain (Coral Sea Low) 29 Dec – 2 Jan

  • Using up bright colours and overpainting a failed picture created this little stunner!

  • I couldn’t fly out of Tulsa, Oklahoma this day (airport was closed); so I went for a walk and took photos like this instead. Unbelieveable!

  • Alfred the Great (Old English: Ælfrēd; c. 849 – October 26, c. 899), also spelt Ælfred, was king of the southern Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex from 871 to 899. Alfred is noted for his defence of the kingdom against the Danish Vikings, becoming the only English King to be awarded the epithet “the Great”. Alfred was the first King of the West Saxons to style himself “King of the English”. Details of his life are discussed in a work by the Welsh scholar Asser. Alfred was a learned man, and encouraged education and improved his kingdom’s law system as well as its military structure. / A popular legend originating from early twelfth century chronicles, tells how when King Alfred first fled to the Somerset Levels, he was given shelter by a peasant woman who, unaware of his identity, left him to watch some cakes she had left cooking on the fire. Preoccupied with the problems of his kingdom, Alfred accidentally let the cakes burn and was taken to task by the woman upon her return. Upon realising the king’s identity, the woman apologised profusely, but Alfred insisted that he was the one who needed to apologise. / More about Alfred

  • Nikon D60, Sigma 50-500mm. Tripod mounted Tried my first shot of the moon last night but was so interrupted. I had another go at it tonight and pleased with the results. Photoshop work….a wee tad of sharpening and cropping, otherwise straight off the camera. / Our full moon will be in two nights (13th Dec) or so it says on the Net

  • Link to Original Full Moon / **~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ / According to Yahoo.com in an article that was posted on Thursday *December 11 2008 about the Full Moon on Friday, December 12th 2008 : The moon’s average distance from us is about 238,855 miles (384,400 km). Friday night it will be just 221,560 miles (356,567 km) away. It will be 14 percent bigger in our sky and 30 percent brighter than some other full moons during the year, according to NASA. / View Artical Here / Please note that the above Link may not be available after a week or so as Yahoo has a tendency to get rid of articles. / *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ / This picture of the Full moon was taken on 12/12/2008 at Midnight, Central, United State time in Texas. With a EOS Canon Digital Rebel XTi 75-300mm Canon lense. Picture that is shown here has been altered, by enlarging the moon to show detail. • I will always remember this building fondly … as I walked past its doors on many many occasions from a boy … sadly its now gone … demolished due to the timbers having dry rot … what a shame! ... surely it could have been saved … another piece of our heritage gone forever. Ah well at least I have this and other snaps to remember it. Saint Nicholas’s Church spire can be seen on the right hand side of this photo … that is my own church ... Curch of Ireland! ... one of the oldest churches in Co.Antrim.

  • UPDATE ~ An artist friend suggested to rename this “Bella Luna” which is Italian for beautiful moon. I have to agree it sounds perfect. This artist also has a gorgeous Weimaraner also named “Bella Luna” The sky was magnificent this morning. The sun was behind me in the sky and just crossing the brink of the horizon. I was in AWE of the lunar magic. There was somthing special about the moon this morning. On Dec. 12th, the moon reached perigee, making it 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser full Moons we’ve seen earlier in 2008. Each month the moon orbits the Earth and on the 12th the moon skimmed by at its closest distance for the last 15 years. The moon passed a mere 356,613 km away from us – 28,000 km closer than normal. The 15-year spectacular occurred as the moon’s perigee – the closest point that it passes Earth – coincided with the full moon. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1094097/Over-moon-The-lunar-spectacle-bigger-brighter-missed-it.html @@PHOTO DETAILS: / A full moon is magical in the sky over my home. I am far enough from the city that the sky shows the stars well. This morning the temp was 20 below without the 30 mph winds. Im just glad I could hold the camera steady enough. My hands were pinkish and frozen! I started shooting around 7:30 and finished around 8:30 or so. Shot in raw, updated to tungsten and landscape settings and enhanced blue coloration. The sky was this vivid, I just enahanced what was there a bit to match more of the nature splendor I saw with my eye. / My Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain.
