The Old General Hospital… / / It was built in 1897 and was home to Newfoundlands first operating room. The hospital has been closed and condemed for many many years now. Rumor has it that many dark and hideous things were done behind its doors, things that are better left forgotten… Only memories are left now that can haunt its dark and terrifying hallways. / / Cinderellas wicked step sisters would be in their glory having her scrub these floors. / / Canon Rebel / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography. / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / More in my “Darkerside of Life Series”... / / / / / /
This is the final image from a series or 8 artworks depicting the Rites of Passage through life from Conception to Passing. It represents the serene essence of humankind leaving the material form of the body and passing over to the next realm of existence. The form itself is a spiral formed from the perfect harmonious spiral formed from the ‘Golden Ratio’ of sacred geometry that is the basic form of all that exists. This work has been created from handmade papers and organic materials from the rainforests of Northern NSW, Australia
I thought I’d found a reason to live / Just like before when I was a child / Only to find that dreams made of sand / Would just fall apart and slip through my hands / But the spirit of life keeps us strong / And the spirit of life is the will to carry on / Adversity what have I done to you / To cause this reclusive silence / That has come between me and you / And the spirit of life oh-ho remains in light / And the spirit of life oh-ho remains inside / I never thought it would be quite like this / Living outside of mutual bliss / But as long as the veins in our arms still stand up / The spirit of life will keep living on / ‘dead can dance’

Charcoal drawing with apophysis layers Birdwings / Your grief for what you’ve lost lifts a mirror / up to where you’re bravely working / Expecting the worst, you look, and instead, / here’s the joyful face you’ve been wanting to see. / Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. / If it were always a fist or always stretched open, / you would be paralyzed. / Your deepest presence is in every small contracting / and expanding / the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated / as birdwings Rumi
Charcoal drawing and Apophysis overlays No room for form On the night when you cross the street / from your shop and your house / to the cemetary, you’ll hear me hailing you from inside / the open grave, and you’ll realize / how we’ve always been together. I am the clear consciousness-core / of your being, the same in / ecstasy as in self hating fatigue. That night, when you escape the fear of snakebite / and all irritation with the ants, you’ll hear / my familiar voice, see the candle being lit, smell the incense, the surprise meal fixed / by the lover inside all your other lovers. This heart tumult is my signal / to you igniting in the tomb. So don’t fuss with the shroud / and the graveyard road dust. Those get ripped open and washed away / in the music of our finally meeting. And don’t look for me in a human shape. / I am inside your looking. No / room for form with love this strong. Rumi
part of a ttv (through the viewfinder) series Theory: / TTV (Through The Viewfinder) photography is when you use an old medium format camera and a digital camera. / These old medium format twin reflex cameras have large viewfinders. Firstly you compose your image using the medium format camera (in my case i have used a mamiya c33) then you actually take the picture using a digital camera (here i use my pentax K10) of what is in the viewfinder of the old camera.

Where do you go when the world has failed you, / when those you sought to teach would not listen? / Where do you go when your joy fades to sorrow, / your oceans die, while your message washes in on a lonely tide, / and your brokenness is but a parting reminder for hard hearts to open? / When the oceans rise and your song is no longer heard, what shores await you….? / Where will you go? And might we with our healing hearts follow? Following on from my story about the mass whale stranding here in the south west I felt compelled to create something more…... to honour these beautiful creatures. Then I viewed the following amazing short clip (shame it’s an Optus advert lol) and wanted to share this with everyone….. / Please view Sales of this image will be donated to the Wildlife appeal to help the birds and animals who have suffered through the fires in Victoria.

All my own photographs. edit – This is a slightly adjusted image from that first posted last night. You might gather from my responses to the comments so far that I was a touch ‘surprised’ by this image… Anyway, now that I have have had a chance to see it up here for a bit – I could see some things that I would have preferred a little differently… So – those adjustments have now been made. I had to take my son to the health visitor clinic today for his year old check up. After we were through there (receiving a glowing report that all is very well with his development) I decided to walk by the graveyard in front of the old C/E church in the village. I had, of course, brought my camera. And this is what I got for my little sojourn.
