I’ve spent the day scanning old negatives for an particular project I’m working on and I came across some images of this. Do I know what it is? Oh yes. Do you know what it is? Let’s see. Is this a fake? Oh no its the real deal. Shot in 1982 when the world was a different place. Was it a better time or not? I don’t know. Was it more dangerous. I can’t tell. Was this type of import more prevelant or more insidous? I don’t know. Was it mine. No. I just happened to be somewhere were I saw it and was allowed to photograph it. Have I seen one since? No not for ages and ages and thank goodness for that. Is it still going on? You bet baby. This is Osama’s gift to the west. We give them death and destruction and they give us the same thing back just wrapped up pretty and sprayed with gold paint.
This is “Oom Samie se Winkel” (Uncle Samie’s Store) in Stellenbosch – a real old-fashioned general dealer, unchanged since it was established more than 150 years ago. The dusky interior houses a very wide array of goods – anything from antique memorabilia, furniture and clothing to tools, hand-made toys, home-made jam and confectionery, candles, leather products and wine from the surrounding wineries. Entering this charming store with its numerous interconnected rooms and intriguing jumble of merchandise is truly to step back into the past. Texture by Bea Pierce

An old bicycle is probably the last thing i would have expected to find in this pharmacy at an abandoned mental asylum, i think this wins the random item award for this week.
A traditional mixed media painting that I had a lot of requests for as a t-shirt, so here it is! :)
The Heritage Series On the Prairies of South Western Saskatchewan / Taken in Swift Current Saskatchewan / this is a shot of the used equipment dealer in the heritage village / with the grain elevator in the background this tipical of a 1900’s elevator / shorter than the ones in the late 30’s and 40’s / all the grain was unloaded by hand ,by the famous backbreaker scope shovel / in later years the steam engine played a big role as a stationary engine / or as tractor for use on the thrash machine and as a field tractor / big and hard to handel
This shot was taken just after #1. Driver Dean Herridge and Co-Driver Chris Murphy competing in the World Rally Championship round of Rally Australia for the Subaru Dealers of Western Australia/ Maximum Team. The vehicle slid in the mud, understeered (Not able to change direction) and headed straight for me. Fortunately all I got was the shot and myself and the camera covered in mud as the driver was able to keep the vehicle from sliding up the embankment and into me lol. phew!
In the urban core . . . if you’re looking to score drugs, you look up, not down, and when you see this hanging above you know you’ve arrived at a dealer’s corner. “Shoes on a Wire” is a well-known street semiotic that drugs are nearby and available for purchase. There is also a special sort of whistling Dealers use to communicate with each other and with their buyers.

This is abundant in drug dealers and junkies. I wasn’t down the alley for very long. I happened to be by myself at the top of the alley . . but the dealers were walking up and i could see a junkie in every corridor, but i had to take the shots i could without putting myself in danger . . . I’m sure i could have walked all the way through, but it an extremely long alley and nowhere to run . . . just in case :-)
This is actually a remake of one I did called bloodLust on my other name, Mydarkside. I think this is better but Love them both. Thanks for looking!
I met Colin back in the mid-seventies through some relatives of mine. One of the most unusual and talented people I’ve ever known. I took this picture in the early eighties in South of France. Colin died in 2003. / Wherever you are, rest in peace.
This croupier was so fast that I was mesmerised by the movement of his hands, against the tools of his trade. So I composed a fairly tight shot while I stood at the back of a group around his table, at Diamond Tooth Gerties Casino in Dawson City in the historic gold rush region that is Canada’s Yukon. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K10D, using an 18-55mm lens. F5.6, 1/30 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm. Winner, WILD WEST SHOW Challenge, November 2009. On our journey through life, we encounter many things that inspire us. This tree inspired me, and took my breathe away. I am just enjoying the journey with the small inspirations that come my path. The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. ... Albert Einstein I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. —Joyce Kilmer
