I shot this just a few moments before dawn off the Bundeena Cliffs at Royal NP just south of Sydney and a 15 minute walk from where I live. / This section of coast in Royal is just magnificent and I keep getting drawn back to it night and day – can’t imagine how many hours I’ve spent up here just sitting and gazing out to sea or taking pics. There are actually some hermit dwellings built into the side of the cliffs during the 1930’s Depression which are now derelict. I can fully understand why people built them. Wouldn’t mind setting up residence myself (but I love my running hot and cold water too much lol). Tv: 1/6 sec / Av: f/ll / ISO: 100 / FL: 10mm / Canon 30D

BEST VIEWED LARGER / Palm Beach is located probably about a hour by car and bus, it is located on a spit of sand with Broken Bay on one side and the ocean on the other at its tip it is dominated by Barenjoey headland and light house. Properties in this area can be priced in the $millions. A favourite with Australias growing list of rich and famous. Popular as film location for its sheer beauty, for those soapie fans it is the base for the Australian SOAPIE Home & Away.. yes there is a “Summer bAy” It i also about 10 minutes from where I live This shot is also another in my exploration of the HDR technique generated from 4 bracketed shot taken at sunrise /

BEST VIEWED LARGER This shot taken with my trusty Nikon D300, with my everloving great value Sigma 10-20mm lens.4 bracketted exposures. No enhancement of colours or filters and very little manipulation required. Software used Photomatix and Capture NX Taken from McMahons Point around 6am. The light , clouds and colour made my camera release finger twitch. This shot taken at sunrise was wonderful with reflections and light. / Newport can be reached by car or bus from the Sydney CBD, this is my neighbourhood No colour manupulation was used nor any filters, the hightened colours are the result of High Dynamic Range. Equipment: Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm lens, 5 Bracketted images .

Balmoral Beach / In the vicinity of Balmoral Beach are restaurants, beautiful houses and expensive yachts. It’s an ideal place for a quick swim and takeaway fish and chips at sunset. In fact, its the type of beach where you can take your rollerblades, dog, bike, sailboard and football, or just a picnic basket. The middle area of the beach is graced with a classic footbridge across the sand to a tree-covered outcrop. A section is protected by a shark net. I’d like to be able to say that when I was composing this shot I saw the plane taking off out of frame and worked out its trajectory would take it just over th e sun as it was rising, but I can’t :-(. Truth is I was so focussed on the rising sun I didn’t even notice the plane til I downloaded the shot and started working on it. So this is actually a tiny crop of the original landscape orientation I shot it in. One of those serendipitous moments you don’t even notice at the time. Taken from Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park just a few moments after Streaming to the Dawn. Another stumble upon going through the archives. Canon 30D / Tv: 1/15sec / Av: f/11 / ISO: 100

This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

I say this is one of the best vantage points for views of Sydney Harbour and the bridge, and not often is the harbour surface so still that it reflects the span of the bridge and lights so well ! If you look close at the bridge you can see the framework mounted on the bridge as they start rigging her for the biggest and best New Years Eve fireworks display.
