The words of the old hymn that inspired the title: When morning gilds the skies my heart awaking cries: / May Jesus Christ be praised! / Alike at work and prayer, to Jesus I repair: / May Jesus Christ be praised! When you begin the day, O never fail to say, / May Jesus Christ be praised! / And at your work rejoice, to sing with heart and voice, / May Jesus Christ be praised!

Remember the saying: Red Sky at Night; Shepherd’s Delight / Red Sky in the Morning, Shepherd’s Warning! One of the most persistent of the weather sayings used by sailors as well as shepherds. There were no weather forecasts, as such in the days gone by, and one had to make their own predictions. This is a loose watercolour 8×10”painted with two colours only Red and Green (Cadmium Red and Sap Green) and also mxing the two together to produce darker colours. The much photographed road shot, taken at sunrise. / All I had to do was get up early and wait for “it” to happen. / The early bird catches the worm ! Scanned from a Fuji Velvia transparency, image shot on my Ricoh KR10 super, mounted on a tripod and polariser fitted, f22, iso 50, don’t know the shutter speed ! / Scanned with my Nikon Coolscan VED into Adobe PS CS3, with a little dust and noise removal. Tree Skeletons shot at Dawn, in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA, reflected in a pool. I shot this before the sun broke through the mist, as I liked the blueness emphasising the coldness – there was a few degrees of frost that morning. / The image I processed from a RAW file, I felt was a little plain, so I gave it a touch of Orton, which drew out the dead tree silhouettes. Still not happy, I added a texture, to enhance the fog, not too much, since I didn’t want to spoil the ‘soft’ feel of the image. / I can recall the quietness of the early morning as I stood in awe of Mother Nature’s magic ! Shot on my Canon Eos 40D, mounted on tripod, f23, 1/60 sec, / no exposure compensation, the meter read the scene correctly, auto wb, RAW file processed in Adobe RAW, then in CS3, Orton applied with reduced opacities, and a texture, downloaded for free off the internet someplace, applied with discretion, by again reducing opacities etc. SEE MORE OF MY USA SET ….

A wave crashes the London Arch, on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia, at sunrise. This was taken at the end of autumn on a very cloudy morning. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera, 18-55mm lens and a tripod. I sold a large framed print (walnut and on red bubble) to my kind sister, Nadia, that she bought as a house warming and birthday present for a lucky friend. Thanks so much Nadia.
