OK… Now I do believe in Karma! I sat in traffic on Friday night with storms around me and witnessed a truly gorgeous dramatic sunset. Frustrated that I was in traffic rather than the beach I thought it wasn’t fair to witness a stunning sunset without an opportunity to photograph it. Saturday morning I popped out to Pittwater around 4:30am and found there were some dramatic storm clouds around, but the colour was pretty flat…. Then all of a sudden just as the sun was starting to peek over the horizon, the light went really weird…. it was like an orange/pink colour and had a very unusual quality about it. The sky was half storm cloud and half clear. So I missed a great sunset, but I was rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise instead.

MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER / 190 Comments,125 Favourites, 2956 Views / Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. A shot taken over the long weekend.. I got up for dawn and it was well and truely worth it, I got so many great shots.. I have no idea how i’m going to go through them all! I was treated to a sublime sunrise a few days ago…Havn’t had color like this for awhile. Taken at Cape Schank ~ Mornington Peninsula Coast…Victoria…Aus. / Pulpit Rock dominates the scene here with one of the many deep, deep rock pools in the forground..So very different from my last upload from this spot on this chilly but calm Winters morning…thanks for having a look in.

Captured in rural Boulder County, Colorado….let me just say this was honest to God unbelievable to photograph. I had to handhold these shots because of my bum knee and well, the lightning was going crazy right above me. But I managed to get some dang nice shots off. This being one of them. I am really happy with this one, I debated about a square crop, but in the end I figured why the heck not, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right folks?
