  • Early morning colors of the Grand Canyon can be mind boggling. The day I shot this image was certainly no exception. • It was surreal waking up to this scene (though I was in the A-structure itself).

  • Something unintentional, though intriguing, is how the shadows of my three hiking companions show up in the bottom left corner. It adds a sort of anticipation in the photo of what is to come.

  • Early morning light captured from Mather Point in the Grand Canyon right after sunrise on a crisp spring morning. The colors here at this time of the day can be astounding and this day was certainly no exception. All content & images © Stephen Vecchiotti. • The colors in the Grand Canyon change by the minute and the color show from dawn to dusk can be simply amazing. This image was captured from Hopi Point about one hour before sunset on an absolutely gorgeous, awe-inspiring spring day. This is undoubtedly a place that every living person should make the opportunity to see at least once in their lifetime. All content & images © Stephen Vecchiotti. • Taken on the Melbourne & Victoria Group trip to Halls Gap. This image extends my initial experiments with HDR compositing starting with the 3rd image in this series. The idea with this one was to achieve a grand, painterly effect. 5th of a series including these: / Grampians Series #1 / Grampians Series #2 / Grampians Series #3 / Grampians Series #4 This is, as they say, best viewed LARGE.

  • A view of the sunrise from the Blue RIdge Parkway in the North Carolina mountains near the town of Blowing Rock.

  • The descent from the Bighorn Mountains on highway 16 into Buffalo, Wyoming was like dropping out of the sky. Gorgeous mist, and then openings in the clouds filled with clear blue sunshine skies and green sparkling hills and trees.

  • Looking out over the mountain ranges from Falls Creek in the Victorian Alps.

  • . / . / ...night wins ;-) / . / . / Canon EOS 400D / Canon EF 70-300 IS USM / and a balconys railing as “tripod” / . / .

  • The sun peeks above the Kenai mountains at 10:08 this morning. Tripod-mounted camera faces east across Cook Inlet (that Cook guy traveled, didn’t he?)—a mile or so toward Turnagain Arm. Grateful to see a sunny day, no matter how short. Standing for more than an hour in the snow at 10’F / -12’C felt fine at the time, but noticed a bit of numbness later. My spouse was facing west and using his tripod and 500mm lens to shoot the blue moon and partial lunar eclipse (when the moon is partially darkened by the earth’s shadow). The blue moon occurs when a second full moon occurs in a month. The blue moon for New Year’s Eve next occurs in 2028. Where will we be? Nikon D200 and Nikkor 70-300mm VR, 70mm, at f/22 and 1/10 sec, -0.3ev, IS0 100. Converted from 12-bit RAW to jpeg using Capture NX 2.2, manual exposure, spot metering, Manfrotto tripod, ball head. Remote shutter. Cokin graduated ND. / (Tripod kept sinking into the snow. Lost one lens cap in the snow and one handwarmer. A good morning!)
