Shot this back in November, 2004, when the grass was much greener, and there was water in the dam. There’s only been water in that dam one other time since then, and it lasted around 6 weeks….this is a nice reminder of what we used to have…. Sold this a number of times pre-redbubble, mostly A3 size, and it won me a $1500 prize from the Brisbane City Council, as well the John Herbert medal at APSCON 2005, and also a number of other smaller prizes. This was sold december 2008 on redbubble as a matted print. Dawn at Garie Beach, Royal National Park just south of Sydney, Australia. A seagull very obligingly flew into shot as I was taking this. Can you spot the silhouetted fishermen? / I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen – it’s only a little national park (14,000 ha) but the variety of stuff to photograph is simply endlessly inspiring. This was taken at a dam in Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills, Australia in winter at dawn. We don’t get any snow in Adelaide, as our summers are very hot. There is still some fog around on the water. This is pure bliss to me. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera, on a tripod. This was taken because of the mood created with the fog, the winter sunlight lighting up the boat and the 3 waterfowl swimming in the opposite direction to the boat.

Caught ‘up the sware’ (a local viewpoint) at dawn yesterday ( 23/9/08) as the sun rose over the tweed valley just outside Peebles, scottish borders. An especially heartwarming sight after the wet grey summer we’ve had … and it’s straight from my Nikon 4800 coolpix compact camera, untouched. ;))) See also mist in the valley taken at the same time ! and also front row seat cheers all / ding / :))

The roadside Pearsons Lookout, on the Castlereagh Highway just south of Capertee village, gives a view over the expansive Capertee Valley / Surrounded by the wonders of World Heritage listed wilderness, the Capertee valley is the world’s second largest canyon. Capertee is 1 kilometre longer than the Grand Canyon, but not quite as deep. Sandstone cliffs dominate the escarpment, drawing down into a deep chasm carved into the environment over millions of years. With tranquil vistas and serene mountain landscapes the Capertee Valley is abundant in flora and wildlife. Under the sandstone layer stretches an enormous layer of coal and oil shale. Rising majestically out of the valley floor is a monolith in size and spectacle. The impressive peak, Pantoney’s Crown, beckons the keen walker to climb its summit. From the top a 360° panorama, of the dramatic and breathtaking valley. The Capertee valley is located in The Gardens Of Stone National Park The Blue Mountains if a World Heritage Area , a few hours by road west of Sydney and are a must when visiting Sydney. Equipment: Nikon D300, / Technique: GET UP WAY TOO EARLY take 5 bracketted images then run it through Photomatix Pro. Then tidy up image lightly in Capture NX. See Also / Grandeur /

Under the pier at Cowes, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia at Dawn. Taken at the same time as Beginning of a new day for something a little bit different. It was pretty chilly, windy and way too early in the morning for me, it’s amazing how much lens distortion you get with a wide angle lens! / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. I’m temporally challenged so dawn shots are rare for me but a couple of times a year near to daylight saving change-overs the sun stops getting up at a silly hour and becomes rather more civilised. I was lucky enough to shoot this after a night of rain so the rock pool on top of the cliffs was full. Shot off Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park, Sydney.
