Wow / Woohoo / Clicking my heals together / Yippee / Grinning from ear to ear / Excellent / On top of the world / Awesome / Unreal / Doing a little dance / As you might have guessed, I’m pretty happy! I have been selected as the feature member for the group Fishlike. / 4 pages of my art, featured. / Thank you so much to the group hosts Neli and Mags, I am sooooooooooo excited, honoured and appreciative. I can’t stop smiling. / Thank you to all who view my art, as many of you would know I suffer from depression and low self esteem. The medical term is Bi-Polar, I have high highs (mania) and low lows (depression), and the switch can trip at any time, no warning. I am very much all or nothing, you will see me on RB for days, loading heaps of art, in one of my manic stages, creating, creating, creating, not sleeping, just creating, creating, creating…....Then nothing, just depression, nothing, numbness. I doubt myself as an artist, I have even deleted art that only days before I loved, but during these downtimes, I doubt my ability. I use creating to ground myself, it is the one constant I can rely on, and I’ve learnt to just draw, doodle, create and wait it out. The Redbubble community has been an integral part of this process. Your encouragement, comments, well wishes, favourites and friendship mean the world to me. Since joining Redbubble (8 months ago) you guys have all had a hand in pulling me out of depression. I appreciate you all so much. I am sooooooo excited to have my work featured all in one place like this, and my sincere thanks to the group ‘Fishlike’ Check it out Fishlike Sincere thanks to all / Melanie

Well, this will be a touch lengthy so apologies in advance. / Most likely you would have heard about my little accident involving my camera & lens when I was shooting at the beach one afternoon. I posted about it on my blog and here and the response I get was very comforting from all who commented, I also got a few bubblemails from certain individuals almost instantly about my situation. The wonderful Vicki Ferrari / who was very keen on helping me in anyway via a ton of bmails to resolve the issue through her extensive knowledge of cameras etc, The most awesome Simone Byrne who contacted me offering her spare lenses to loan until I got back on my feet and providing me with some information about cheap replacement lenses I would have otherwise not known about. And then came along Darryl Davis like some bloody superhero messaging me, adamant that I should let him help me, with the loan of some kit lenses. Fortunately he had Nikon mounts so I accepted, very humbled to say the least by his offer. He promptly asked for my address so he could post the lens off asap, I insisted he give me me his bank details so I could deposit the shipping costs into his account as I didnt want him to be out of pocket for anything. / He wasn’t having any part of that, stubborn bugger lol! Needless to say I was gob smacked at his generosity and asked the heavens what I did to deserve such an awesome bloke coming to my rescue. / The lens arrived today, by express post! All the while I was fretting about the issue, whether it was the lens that needed replacing or the camera itself. Testing it with another lens would solve that. / The good news is Darryl’s 18-55mm Nikkor works perfectly with my D80, so in short it is just a lens I need to replace and not a whole body. Such relief :) Thankyou doesnt seem nearly enough to those people that have gone above and beyond to help me out of a mess, these are complete strangers I keep forgetting, people I’ve never met in person. Maybe I’ve lived a sheltered life? But I’ve never been on the recieving end of such kindness before, not in my life. / So my deepest thankyou’s to you, I will not forget, only wish I could do something for you. To everyone offering encouragement and support through your comments you are all second to none, I really appreciate all of you, every last comment means a great deal to me. Also while I am writing, some more excellent stuff happened today. / Last year I entered a contest through PHart and came second with this pic. / My prize was a 16×20 canvas from a photo of my choice. It arrived today and I must say I’m pretty happy with it. The first piece of my photography I’ve ever displayed on my wall. Going for a sunrise shoot tomorrow, with the new lens weather permitting, so some more shots from me coming soon :)

  • update on daughters baby

many of my dear redbubble friends read my journal entitled feeling sick with worry, when my daughter leanne was told she was carrying a baby that had the condition Gastrschisis, in other words the stomach wall not closeing and the intestines growing outside babys body. This news was given at her 12 weeks scan. Before giving an up date that so many lovely bubble friends have asked for I would like to thank everyone for their good will messages and prayers and to those that gave help and advice, may I say that those who mentioned the Geeps website have given so much hope to leanne and thefamily, would like to say Geeps has been backed up by leannes medical staff at the UHW in cardiff. Well leanne has had two scans recentley the first at 16 weeks, where gastroschisis was 100% confirmed, the following week leanne at 17 weeks was given a more intricate scan which lasted well over half an hour, measurements were taken of all limbs, head and all organs in detail including the intestines. it was a long wait then whilst the consultant was called to check each individual scan image, I must say to see that baby bouncing about with hands waving was a joy, he/she was so active, they kindly pointed out the intestines which appeared as a big mass but somehow it seemed to just fade into insignificance we all agreed the baby was beautiful and the intestines were just another part of this dear little mite, comforted by his/her active movements, we sat and waited, we were at last told that there was no other abnormalities found, releif was amazing, . leanne was told that she would be scanned every few weeks and every week nearer the date and that she would be given a heart monitor to take home as staff admitted the last few weeks are panicky for them also, she was told a incubater would be set aside for baby and a date to be induced given and was told that as long as there were no emergencies baby would be born there, but if full, bristol or birmingham. They told her that there would be a primary op at birth within a few hours to put as much of the intestines and any bowel back in as possible, if any left outside they would then put it in a sterile bag hang it up in crib and let gravity take its course and the close the tummy up this would take a few weeks and is called secondary proceedure. They said occasionally part of the intestines dies and therefore would have to be cut away, following the op, intestines and bowel become paralised so it takes a while for this to wear off during which time the baby cannot feed as normal, so it takes time then when the intestines begin to function for baby to tolerate feeds. Infections can arise and baby would then be put on antibiotics. in south wales tthis abnormality is grweater , although these cases are becoming more and more, leanne is involved in a survey now and will be giving extra blood in the hope to find a cause for this abnormality is known, they assured leanne it is nothing she either did or didnt do. There is a risk, we know this and the staff did say to leanne if she chose not to continue they would support her. There is no question in leannes or robs mind they want to continue , Im so glad but would have supported any decision they made, I m proud of how leanne is handling all this and of the support her boyfriend rob is giving her. Tonight leanne txted me she is 18weeks and today felt the baby kick for the first time, I feel like crying with joy and rang her, she is so excited bless her. so thanks everyone , love you all for your kindness and concern will keep you updated and im so glad I can share with you my dear friends in the redbubble community lv suexx

I have been troubled over the past 10 years of Life and Death ….... life I can cope with but death was an estrangement that I pushed to the furthest part of my mind. This week all that has changed by coincidences on RB. Firstly please read the remarks left by druidstorm The Day I Saved A Life and then please read the following work of Anthony Hedger Am I Asleep Or Am I Dead and then please read Larry Davis’s Death Be A Friend Between these three guys unknowingly they have answered my questions and I feel peace finally within myself knowing this. So I just wanted to say THANK YOU guys

Thankyou heaps& yonks Redbubble. / My framed photographs arrived safely all wrapped up in red and white beautifully. The quality of the printing and the framing is amazing.Im so excited. / I will be showing these works in a solo exhibition Im having at Tilt Contemporary Art / Melbourne in October. I will also being showing my paintings and some collage works . All work i did in Paris and since coming home in August this year / ” EVERYBODY’S WELCOME to PARISGRIT”. / Details below. / For Details, Contact: Dr. Manfred Krautschneider / Gallery Manager / Phone (03) 9752 5599 or 0402 250 274 / Email: manfred@tilt.com.au 8 Belgrave Arcade, / 1647 Burwood Hwy, Belgrave / Vic 3160, Australia / www.tilt.com.au Jenny Davis – “Parisgrit” Parisgrit at Tilt Contemporary Art in Belgrave, is the first Melbourne exhibition of this work by Yarra Valley artist Jenny Davis since showing in Berlin whilst living in Paris for the last three months. / Jenny uses paint, photography and recycled, found objects to express herself, developing imagery from surfaces and spaces found in city and urban environments. With an international exhibition history including New York, Berlin, and Barcelona, this local artist is building a strong reputation. / The works on show result from her documentation of underground spaces, surfaces, corners, crevices, signage, graffiti, consumer packaging and litter, and objects for collage that were collected in Paris. Tilt Contemporary Art presents: / “Parisgrit” Painting, photography and collage by Jenny Davis / October 11 – 28, 2007 Thu. – Sun. 12 – 6 pm / Opening celebration: 4 – 7 pm Saturday October 13 / / / Jenny Davis ARTIST’S STATEMENT PARISGRIT a new exhibition from Jenny Davis Photography – Paintings- Collage In Paris there is beauty everywhere. So where did my ‘head-down’ inspiration for Parisgrit come from? Probably my contrary view that beauty is what we make it. So I explored the underground spaces, surfaces, corners, crevices, signage, graffiti and even discarded packaging of Paris, finding as much interest there as a tourist sees in the classic art and architecture. It’s all street art – digital images, street litter and objects for collage – that I impulsively, obsessively collected from the Paris under my feet. Parisgrit is the other beauty of Paris, the ignored and neglected surprises and symbols, filtered through the mischief in my heart and grit in my eyes! Amusez vous … Jenny Davis About the Artist In May this year Jenny traveled to Paris to take part of an exhibition in Berlin with 4 other Melbourne artists. After a few hitches with the Berlin exhibition, the artists finally enjoyed an opening at the Paul Curtiz Contemporary Movement gallery which included the attendance of dignitaries’ from the Australian embassy in Germany. Jenny also spent 3 months in Asnieres-Sur-Seine in Paris, the once home of 18th century painter, Georges Seurat who painted the famous “Une Baignade a`Asnieres” Living amongst the local and ethnic communities she was able to breathe in the essence of life and culture in Paris. Time was spent strolling through the museums, Louvre, D’orsay and the Pompidou, and the not so touristy areas, to network with the artists & galleries to see what their local artists were up to. / Jenny observed the spirit of the “French Café” noticing much of it remains as it was in the earlier days with its red districts, brothels and porno joints, all still colorfully alive. Exploring areas like, Mont Martre and places where legendary artists and writers once frequented, where art movements such as Dadaism and Surrealism were argued and created, Jenny loaded herself with camera, video and paintbrush and explored the underground spaces, surfaces, corners, crevices, signage, graffiti and even collected the discarded packaging of Paris, finding as much interest there as a tourist sees in the classic art and architecture. / / / /

Hi all, I just want to let anyone who may be looking at getting their own website to take a look at Zenfolio. / They have just updated their features to create a very slick looking site at very reasonable prices. My website is the Unlimited and for $40us a year I believe it really offers value for money. Your site can now be customized with your own choice of colours, slide show on your front page and a host of new features. I’m really happy with the ability to search my gallery, for example if you want to see my photos of Kyoto from my recent holiday to Japan, you can simply type Kyoto into the search, and up they pop! How cool is that! / And of course, my shop is Redbubble. / I’m still tinkering with my site but take a peek if you are looking for a website. They offer a 14 day trial and I’m pretty happy with all the new changes. / My website is here

Hi friends on Redbubble, I just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful freatures and the joy and gladness that it brings to me, knowing that many of you are just as thrilled about my art. Thanks also to everyone who’s commented and viewd these images over recent weeks. : Featured in Statues and Such. : Featured in Nature’s Reclamation. : Featured in ImageWriting & Alphabet Soup. : Featured in Alphabet Soup & Architecture and Cityscapes. : Featured in London Life Thanks soooooo much for that my friends. It’s been quite a trying time for us since the summer: travelling to Scotland to visit my sick father, then having my Father-in-law move in with us (he wants to stay forever now) and also taking the funerals of a really good friend and also my sister’s partner Alan. It all sounds quite gloomy, but we’ve got so much to give thanks for in our lives. We’re still enjoying living in London. Thanks to you all, and I hope that your Christmas celebrations are filled with joy, happiness merriments and the true peace that only Jesus Christ can bring. Love and Big Hugs to you all. XXX Don.

  • "Glorious 39" Premiere photos (Dr Who! Davy Jones! Girl with Spiky Hair!)
    by berndt2

Do you remember back when it seemed that every premiere I went to featured a Tom Cruise...

Do you remember back when it seemed that every premiere I went to featured a Tom Cruise or Charlize Theron or a Will Smith or Megan Fox ... and now I’m typing names like ‘Dominic Cooper’ and ‘Hofit Golan’? It’s BFI Film Festival, and I’m really enjoying it photographically as the premieres are a bit smaller, the crowds a little bit more manageable and the stars a little more accessible. And for me, a premiere is a premiere is a premiere, after all. But do you care? It doesn’t matter. Here’s the latest anyway! / “Glorious 39”. I’d never heard of the film, and if I’m honest I didn’t know there was a premiere for it – I was there for the movie after it, same cinema, two hours later. But hey, have camera, will travel! / Actress Juno Temple, who has actually been in a reasonable number of recent films, some of which I’ve heard of (“St Trinians”, “Year One” and “Atonement”), and one of which I’ve seen (“The Other Boleyn Girl” – I wish to state that I was on a flight, and I generally don’t sleep on flights) / And people ask why I don’t use a flash even in low light…. this is why! / Toby Regbo. I’m all set to go “who?” but according to IMDB, he’ll be playing the role of teenage Dumbledore in the last two Harry Potter films, which is certainly something I couldn’t. / Actor Hugh Bonneville. His imdb entry is remarkably long. That’s all I’ve got. / Playwright / Director / Scriptwriter Stephen Poliakoff. Call me uncultured, but is it wrong that I look at him and go : “Now, if he was wearing a monocle rather than spectacles, this image would be verging on awesome“? / She’s late… she’s late… for a very important date (and yet the Michael Jackson “This is it” is in a totally different part of Leicester Square… and not for another five hours…) / Actor Bill Nighy has been in nearly every movie ever made, and been at the premiere for many of the rest. In this instance…. he’s both in the movie and at the premiere. Well played, sir! / Actress Romola Garai. Like a present day Sherlock Holmes, while putting together this journal I’m starting to put together what’s going on here. She was in the movie ‘Atonement’. So was Juno Temple. The poster for the film says “Glorious 39” is “This year’s Atonement” Different director…. but the theme is there. I’ll keep you posted. / Taking low-light photography to the next (even lower) level. Why use a flash when you can make actors look as creepy as this? / Actor David Tennant is in this film, and he’s also the outgoing Dr Who. The crowd went fairly crazy-nuts upon his arrival, and he responded in kind! / David Tenant played the mad Barty Crouch in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. A risky bit of casting? Not really… So then it was time to either go home, or wait around for two hours for another premiere, this one for the latest by the Coen brothers. I think we all know how that would work out! Until next time, why not check out the archive of movie premieres Chloe – Moore! Seyfried! Reitman! / Dead Man Running – 50 Cent! Rio Ferdinand! / An Education – Thompson! Mulligan! / Bright Star – Jane Campion! Boris Johnson! / The Road – Firth! Mortensen! / The Men Who Stare At Goats – Clooney! Again! But what about my ‘Movie Premieres Highlights’ Calendar? /
