Sydney is not only blessed by a beautiful coastline providing us with countless beaches, but also some of these beaches have a “rock pool” at the headland. These rock pools provide a great place for the locals to take a dip in the ocean without the waves. This shot has a bit of a story behind it, I was with a group of fellow photographers on what we call a Ferry Hop expedition. Basically we spend the day or most of it, riding the Sydney Ferries to different destinations taking photos on board and where ever we disembark. On this particular outing a few of my fellow photographers and I decided to issue a challenge, walk up to perfect strangers and ask for to take their photo. This was only the second person I ask after the challenge was issued. This lovely gentleman had a great face, a lovely white and gray beard and looked just the part for a nautical theme. As it happens when I approached him, we were nearing a replica tall ship and the Darling Harbour light house (scene in the background). Well all the elements just fell into place, and I only took two shots but I knew I had bag a great image, I thanked the Sea Captain as I’ve now called him, showed him the image and let him travel the rest of the trip in peace. I’m considering entering this in the portrait section of the Real Photography compeition, while it may be a little unconventional, it’s one of my favourite portraits (and most the others my wife won’t let me post as they are pictures of her).
And as the sun shall set, in the dark of the night. / Just like the soul, with angst and fright / But once again you showed me light, / hearing your prayers as they are sent into heavens flight. Religion gives a person faith. Faith keeps a person alive. Keeping alive is survival. and survival is salvation. - – - / Rain rain go away come again another day. It was a perfect setting for a mood piece. It just so happened that guy sat over the edge there. What luck. Shot at The Gap, Albany. Western Australia. MORE WORKS FROM MY PORTFOLIO /
This collection of Urban Landscapes is drawn from a larger body of work called Darkscapes. They are moody evocative invitations into mystery and imagination taken from the ordinary things that make up the fabric of city life. Beauty is all around us if only we take the time to notice it. We all look but maybe we don’t all see. This collection of images is a way for me to share what I see with others. Some years back I was short listed for a Sculpture commission at the new Green Square Railway station. I didn’t in the end win the commission but I did get to walk up the tunnels before any trains traveled though the station. This is one of the many photo’s I took. This is a companion image to the Urban Landscape#28 taken underneath Green Square station a couple of years ago before the trains started to use the lines. Walking up these tracks was a truly amazing experience.
