I would first like to personally thank Dave Moilanen for participating in the Happy Haven Group’s 11th interview. I so enjoyed reading your interview! I think Dave, you and I came aboard the redbubble about the same time. I’ve followed your incredible artistic journey since then… I have so enjoyed viewing your creative and talented work…. it’s amazing to me!! I’ve always enjoyed your outstanding Fractal ART work!! I don’t know much about Fractal Art but I would love to learn one day….. I think it’s gorgeous!! Your 3D work is beautiful also…… and the other day you uploaded an incredible piece titled….. UP Close and Personal / / I love this awesome creative work of ART, and if you read his description that accompanied this work then you understand the impact of his wonderful talents!!! I also admire the way that Dave shares his thoughts and spirituality from the heart through his art!! If you haven’t seen Dave’s work, I encourage you to please stop by and visit him!! Dave’s Portfolio / Choosing a piece of Dave’s artwork to represent the Happy Haven Group was not an easy task!!! But the piece I have chosen is….You Captured My Heart and his work is a reflection of that title…… His work does capture your heart and leaves you with a smile!! / / You Captured My Heart / I really loved your inspirational message in the interview too!! Do what you love and love what you do!! And just have fun….. It is such a wonderful message and one I try not to forget!! Thanks again Dave!! :-)) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!! Hugs, / Deb aka TrEaSuReDiMaGeS (Host/Moderator) of the “Happy Haven Group” Interview Questions 1. How long have you been an artist on the redbubble? / I joined redbubble early in September of 2007. 2. What country are you from? / I am from the USA. 3. Tell us a little bit about yourself. / I am a construction worker by day. I have been involved in the field of excavation and underground for over 22 years now. My wonderful wife Genny lets me relax and unwind by letting me indulge in my favorite hobby, digital art. 4. How long have you been a photographer/artist? / I first started doing digital art late in 2006. 5. What type of artwork do you enjoy creating and why? / I enjoy creating both fractal art and 3D art. Fractal art is fun for me to create because it lets me push my creativity. I like to try and incorporate a sense of individuality and uniqueness in each fractal. 3D art is a lot of fun because it gives you control over your imagination. More of a hands on approach, so to speak. 6. What is your favorite work of art in your portfolio and why? / Boy, this is a tough question. I have always liked ‘Stormy Waters’. I don’t know if it is because of the color or the movement. Maybe it is because of what is looking back at you. I am really proud of ‘Consequence’ also. That is my most viewed and commented on piece. / Stormy Waters / Consequence / 7. What has been your greatest accomplishment as an artist up to the / present date? / I would have to say that my greatest accomplishment to date has been making great friendships with all types of different artists from around the world. 8. Do you have an artist that you admire? If so who and why? / You mean besides all the talent that is on this site? (big SMILE) There are three artists that I would like to mention. Ruth Palmer, Vicky Brago-Mitchell and Linda Peer. Ruthie took me under her wing and showed me the joys of digital art. Vicky was my inspiration and guiding force for the love of fractal art. Linda led me to the wonderful and amazing world of Bryce. 9. What are your dreams, goals and aspirations as an artist? / I would love to be able to quit my day job and concentrate full time on art. Until then I will just keep doing what I am doing and hopefully let those who view my art, leave them with a smile. 10. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while / creating some of your artwork? / I can’t really think of anything funny that’s happened while creating. 11. Do you have an inspirational message you would like to share with other / artists? / All I can say is do what you love and love what you do. The name of the game is to just have fun.

Admin Dave was so excited after yesterday receiving his first black Tee he had to stop deconstructing perfectly good Mac notebooks (see chair), and we ended up with a real case of life (poorly) imitating art. We couldn’t get him to take the sunglasses off, in fact no-one has ever seen his eyes, we’re not sure if they are like the mechanical, evil red ones from the Terminator, or a lovely baby blue. Modelled here is the wonderful black version of ‘Wound-Up’ by Scott Robinson AKA Resisto . - John

Hack: "Friends of RedBubble" quick link for mybubble
by Dave PearsonInspired by this thread...
Inspired by this thread I’ve knocked up a quick Greasemonkey hack that adds a Friends of RedBubble forum link the the quick links bar in mybubble. This, of course, is only useful to people who use Firefox, have Greasemonkey installed, and who are a member of the FoRB group. If that’s you and this sounds useful then pop over here to get a copy.

What's your RedBubble Year?

Note that I’ve also posted about this on the forums A little earlier today I noticed that the total number of pages of art on RedBubble was about to hit the 6,000 mark. And then I got to thinking that most people probably look at the first 10 or so pages and perhaps the last couple of pages (just to see what’s right at the “bottom” at any given moment). And then I got to thinking some more: somewhere around the middle there’s probably lots of stuff that most people don’t notice. So, how about picking a random page and bookmarking it (the content will change over time anyway). So how to pick one at “random”? Pick a year, perhaps? So, long story short, the pick a year and find art tool page thing Yeah, I know, it’s stupid… So, what’s your RedBubble year? Did you find anything fun? Edit: As of December 2007 this no longer works due to the fact that the “most popular ever” view is now restricted to just 30 pages. :-(

Hack: RedBubble art list exporter for Microsoft Windows
by Dave PearsonEver since I wrote getrbart I’ve been toyi…
Ever since I wrote getrbart I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a variation on that theme that might be useful to people who aren’t in the habit of getting “down and dirty” on their Windows machines, people who prefer not to install software they don’t know about and who don’t fancy running command line scripts. Last week I finally cracked and started work on something: This is a very early release of the software, it doesn’t do a whole lot of stuff. Things it does do: Lets you download a list of all your public art on RedBubble. Lets you save the list and load it again later. Lets you download it again (dur!) Lets you export the list as a comma-separated values file. Lets you export the list as a tab-separated values file. Lets you export the list as a set of HTML files, which might be useful for including in your own website (if you have one). Please note that this is a very early release of the tool. I’m making it available to people who are feeling adventurous (or foolish, depending on how you want to look at it) and who won’t mind reporting problems or giving suggestions. I can’t promise that it’ll do everything you want, but I can promise that it’ll be free to download, free to use and will always be free to use. If you fancy having a play head over here and have a read and, if you like what you see, download, install and have a play. PS: Yes, I know the application icon sucks in a big way. I’m a developer, not a designer. :P Version Details: v1.5.0.0 — Released 2008-05-21 / v1.4.0.0 — Released 2008-05-16 / v1.3.0.0 — Released 2008-05-16 / v1.2.0.0 — Released 2008-05-15 / v1.1.0.0 — Released 2008-05-14

Inspired by this thread (although it is a subject that has come up many times before) on the RedBubble forums I’ve created a Greasemonkey script to implement a very simple BubbleMail preview facility. It works by adding a preview button to your screen when you compose a new BubbleMail: When you press the button a preview of your BubbleMail will appear below the button: It’s not perfect. It has some issues. But it’s a start. See over here for more details about the script and to get a copy.

Welcome to the very first installment of a series of three panel strips I’ve aptly titled “Bubbleworld!” Bet you’re excited, aren’t you? No? I used an exclamation point…didn’t that help any? No, it didn’t have any effect? Well, can you at least pretend to be excited? For your old pal Steve? Come on, what’s it going to hurt? You can? Cool, thanks, I appreciate it. My goal with the “Bubbleworld” is simply to showcase the work of some of the people I’ve met during my first three months or so on the site, and to show my appreciation of them, and admiration for their work in the only way I know how… By poking fun at them. (What can I say, I’m an emotional misfit.) First on the chopping block is the good Mr. Dave Edwards also known as BLYTHART / (For a larger image click the picture) Dave is a man of many artistic talents and seems to be a hell of a nice guy to boot. Hopefully he enjoyed my little comic. Here are just a few examples of Dave’s work that I used as inspiration for the above piece. (Click for a larger image) I’m going to try and do a new one every couple of weeks, some sooner, some no doubt later due to my amazing ability procrastinate. I already have next weeks edition ready to go so expect it next Monday. If anyone out there wants me to feature them, just let me know via. Bubblemail and I’ll see what I can do. It might take me a couple of months to get to you but I’ll try my best. Steve~

Its hard enough wading through pages of activity monitor pages playing catchup, but this recent glitch that is happening with getting old pics noticed again, is a pain and yes i can understand that people want to get thier work noticed, after all that is why we are all here but to keep playing on it is only making it worse and for me now i cant even be bothered to trawl through the page anymore, which is spoiling it fro me and others i am sure, until this gets sorted, lets be a bit more thoughtful, it s all well and good if you have nothing to all day but i have to get as much RB time in as i can when i can which is hard enough as i say with out having to look at work we have already seen and commented on and favorited. / Rant over, sorry if i have offended anyone. / Dave

Last week PigleT and me were chatting about how annoying it is that you can’t edit a work on RedBubble from the public view of the work. Diving into your art or clothing list to find the work, or hacking on its URL, can be a real pain. I then got to thinking that a Greasemonkey script could be the way to go, although this would have the downside that it would only work with Firefox (not that I see that as a downside). PigleT then had the cracking idea of using a bookmarklet. Smart idea because it would work with most browsers. And then we did the usual thing and let the good idea stay just like that: a good idea. And then I saw this thread and that got us going again. I tried one way (and failed) and PigleT tried another and it worked, but only for art. I then hacked it a little and made it work with art, clothing, journals and writing. The end result can be found over here. And it works. And works well. And solves a really annoying problem. There’s a couple of issues, not least of which is the fact that any number of strange things could happen if you used the bookmarklet while viewing something other than a public view of one of your works. Think of this as a feature rather than a bug. Edit: If you’re a Firefox user, and you have Greasemonkey installed (or are happy to), then this approach might be more to your taste.

Time for another Greasemonkey hack. Instead of the rather small bit of help you get webgrrl’s rather handy text formatting cheat sheet. See over here for more details.
